We had 80 Thousand Hits Friday; how many did you have ?

Call it our Irish and Jamaican Temperment, but we’ve reached our boiling point, so this is for all a y’all DROPPERS

We Are Not a Drop it Like it’s Hot Blog, so if your motive is; then Honey, Why Come Here anyway

It’s a shame when somebody takes something good and runs it into the ground. we know this may seem a lil vague to start out – but lets give you an example;

on friday the 13th of March this website got more than 80 thousand hits. yes in one day we got more than 80 thousand hits.

ONLY 175 of those were from entrecard – HA !

Just So that everything is clear, we wrote this blog at 2pm in the afternoon on a Saturday 03/14/09  for post at midnight on Sunday 03/15/09.

just call it a premonition..

we read this info on the changes to Entrecard which follow at 2am on Sunday nite. so that should tell all of y’all that we not only smelled the stank but were clear about what it meant to us, ultimately.

This is a part of a blog clipped from today’s 03/15/09 entrecard member blog; posted unedited just to show you why your 1 ec drop is going to be worth even less next week – yes MONDAY.

We’re Launching a Third Party Ad Network and a Credit Cashout Service

Written on March 14th, 2009 by Graham

A real ad network

We will be opening as much as 50% of our ad impressions network-wide to third party advertisers. We will be accepting cash payments to run 125×125 advertisements through our widget network. Ads will be sold as run of network, or targeted by category, for a low CPM rate to be announced. Please plan your daily entrecard ad purchasing accordingly. Whereas before, when you purchased an ad, you were buying a minimum of 100% of the impressions, you are now buying a minimum of 50%. However, the maximum is still 100% of the impressions, because if we have no ads booked for that category, or for the network, for any given day, you will still get all of the impressions.

What Does This Mean ?

Essentially Graham Will Now Be Earning CASH Off Of Your Blog, but You Will GET NADA – Zip Zilch, and guess what, keep reading where he tells you that if you don’t like it – you can gtf out of Entrecard.. WOWWWWWWW…..
Exchange your credits for CASH
With the money we make selling as much as 50% of our network impressions, we will purchase your credits from you, and delete them from the system. This means we’re going to let you sell credits for cash, right from your dashboard! This has been the single most requested feature since we launched Entrecard. Members have clamored for a way to sell Entrecard credits for cash, but the same problem always arose: where does the money come from to let people sell their credits? How do we use our greatest resource (millions of daily impressions across ~60 niches) to benefit everyone? After much deliberation, the answer became clear. We must open up our ad network, and funnel the proceeds of the entire operation back to you, the members!

and in regards to why he says this -

In parallel, the Entrecard economy has been in a state of inflation since day one. Every day, more credits are created than are deleted. As of writing this, there are 44 million credits in the Entrecard economy, and we’re adding more each day. This is not sustainable, and so it has become clear that we need a more efficient way than advertising taxes to eliminate credits from the economy. The good news is that if this works, we’ll be able to lower the advertising tax.

So, by paying you cash for your credits, and then wiping them from the system, we estimate that we can delete as many as 1 to 2 million credits per day. This will immediately shift the economy into DEFLATION, which means your credits will become MORE valuable, instead of less valuable, both in their purchasing power and in their monetary value.

Finally, Entrecard has needed a solid revenue model since day one. We are excited to have settled on a viable revenue model that allows us to make money at the same time as passing on the majority of our revenues back to you. For any given day, we will take 75% of our revenues and pass them on to you by way of cashing out your credits. We will take the remaining 25% for ourselves to grow the business as a solid revenue source.

What if I don’t want these ads on my site?

We have always prided ourselves in being a service that offers you complete control over what does and does not appear on your site. Yet, at the same time, we’re forced to mitigate this ideal with our decision to launch a more traditional ad network, as a way to make you money, restore the economy to balance, and make some money for ourselves.

We will continue to allow you to reject any ad you wish. However, to reject ads from paying advertisers, you will need to pay a credit fee for each ad you wish to reject. We don’t know how much this will be just yet.

End of repost from Entrecard Blog 03/15/09

So if I am understanding what he says, I will have to pay a fee to support the ads on my blog if I choose to stay in entrecard, and not buy these commercial ads , IN Addition to Drop For 1 EC Per Site Everyday – What’s Up  Graham ?

Aaahhh Helloo this is a IRS Tax Issue incase you don’t smell it. all real and earned property is subject to income tax – IN THE USA.

many of you may understand now that the serena in a thong campaign is all about Jazz in the Gardens, In Miami Gardens March 28-29th 2009.

others of you just come to make a one ec drop and leave as quickly as you came, never paying any attention to the content, or bothering to comment; and never bothering to  listen to the Radio Station.

Don’t get it twisted cause we want your visits;  but it has become clear to us that this Bounce rate issue is a direct result of this Hit and Run Activity that we never experienced before Entrecard.

so with that said, we just want to warn you that we are burning through our credits in a massive ad campaign; and also we are employing better advertising methods which get READERS, Not DROPPERS.

do not think that your 1 sec drop goes unnoticed because it does..

it kills our stats; DAILY..

*and apparently now it will also cost us cash.

so with that said, if you want to drop by here for one ec, then why bother. we want READERS and Commentors.

We Are Not a Drop it Like it’s Hot Blog, so if your motive is One Ec, then Don’t Bother Dropping and Honey, Why Come Back.

Plain and Simple,

Happy St. Patricks Day –

Now Hol Dat

Now, that's what I call a post! Right to the point and you are 100% right!
    Keep up the good work!

  • I've told Entrecard that I won't re-design my blog to suit them either.

"Caledonian Comment" is MINE, not theirs.

  • DorothyL says:

Looks like it is back to good no no-nonsense blogging!
Typical of society to choose profit over people.
Is this not what we are dealing with all over the world and look where we are at. BLAH!
I have seen many good bloggers pull out of Entre-card lately and it has peeked my own curiosity.
It spells GREED all over it!
Thanks for the post..I feel that more content oriented bloggers will be pulling out also.

    Have a very good day!
    ~D~

  • I sure was surprised to read about the Entrecard changes this morning. And I am a little worried about having to pay to reject an ad, especially since I am real careful about making sure my ads are family-friendly. I'm going to watch closely and see how this all plays out.

    • RE_Ausetkmt says:

Well Daisy it seems your blog is now under the ad control of ENTRECARD. LOL.
I know you will handle it, correctly – that's why I'll be following your lead kitty.

Lead Out Baby, I'm With You Everytime

  • Shelly says:

Yep. I'm interested to see how this plays out as well. I like EC because it exposes me to blogs I otherwise might not find, but I agree the bounce rate sucks because of it!

  • Shinade says:

I am in total agreement with you here and I too am leaving EC as soon as my adds have either canceled or have finished running. I have never been a commercial site and I don't plan on letting someone force me into it.

I contacted all of my advertisers and said they might as well save their credits and cancel with me. As soon as my adds gone for both of my blogs I am done with EC also.

Great post that explains it so much better than Graham's well written email that was misleading to say the least.

It one didn't read between the lines and decipher through hog wash then they don't fully understand what he is doing. He already gets plenty of advertising from my blog as I am a popular blog.

He will not dictate to me or force me to run commercial adds.

Great post…I wish I had someway to link to it so everyone could read it on my site as well. I will be adding you to my blog roll so we don't lose contact.

I am German and Cherokee so just mark my determination up to that. My Cherokee blood does not fare well with mandates and bullying.
    Happy St. Patty's day!

    • RE_Ausetkmt says:

Shinade, Babygirl – hold tight for a min to see how this plays out for the first week or so of the change. we have to amass enough data to MAKE a comparison solidly.

You and the rest of us thinking adults have already summed it up – as we don't have a spare million dollars laying around to use while we conduct a few experiements in social advertising; Ha !

I know msu didn't give me that damn MS in Int;' Finance and Econ cause I changed my plan in the middle of their game. but then again that Ph.D wasn't free either. and now that I think about it neither is the Co-Pay for this damn Entre Carpel Tunnel.

  • John says:

Graham built Entrecard and if he wants to throw it all alway and turn it into a crappy 3rd party advertising network, he has every right to.

In the process, he'll probably alienate the most important part of Entrecard, the community. I've discovered some great bloggers on Entrecard, if it wasn't for the community I wouldn't be there.

If there are tax implications, or penalties, or I feel like I'm being used I'll be straight out of there. The traffic from Entrecard is minimal anyway.

    • RE_Ausetkmt says:

      well john, ad revenue is earned income – according to the IRS;
sorry to snatch the panties of that phat ass lie for ya.
thats why Graham is being purposely vague in his wording hon.
but you see there are those of us who understand the swirl..

      and the DIP,

Great post, and right to the point. I am thinking a lot about leaving EC, too… I don't like the sound of this at all!

    • RE_Ausetkmt says:

Lidian, you know my motto right
      " Why Lie"
But Dear, My Mom's motto was even more important to me
"If Common Sense Was Common then Everybody Would Have It"

welllllllllll,, let the chuuuuch say amen

  • RE_Ausetkmt says:

  • *lynne* says:

My "a malaysian abroad" blog is a few months old, and I've been using EC to get some traffic over there… yes I've discovered some great blogs, but in general the traffic is not of long-term quality – my recent vacation showed that when i didn't spend 2 hrs dropping 300 cards, I would be lucky to get 30-50 visits from the EC system. Time to switch gears and look to develop more long-term readers!

I have perhaps 30,000 ECs spread over 3 blogs… I'll probably just keep one in the EC system, transfer all those credits to that one blog/account, cash in then get the h**k outta there.

No way do I agree with being penalised for not wanting an ad on my site.

btw – 80K hits in one day? Ah, something to strive for!! :) :)

  • Denise Lee says:

    Hey Lady,
I know I'm a drop it like it's hot girl, but I do read, don't always comment, time thing. I will ride out the entrecard thing and see where he is going with it – if it weren't for Entrecard I would never have met you, and what a shame that would have been-:)

  • John D says:

You're so right! I've been ready to drop EC for a while and now I'm really angry. I'm not about to give that card thing any more play, and I never signed up to get outside ads. I'll let the couple of blogs on my list now have their day and then I'm out.

Thanks for hitting them hard — John

  • I still can't figure out how I feel about this whole thing.

  • entredropper says:

Great post on the issue. We're on the fence on this and will put our own thoughts on hold until entrecard actually takes into effect all the changes. it cuts both ways and maybe, just maybe the positives outweighs the negatives so in the end it will still workout for all members.

In our HO, we shouldn't be jumping out ship too soon. Let's give EC the benefit of the doubt…

  • Tom Usher says:

What about a double 125X125 with the option of widgets side-by-side or stacked? That way a member's blog-ad could always be showing.

    • admin says:

      Tom
      thanks for the comment.
how many blogs do you know tht run side by side ads ?
my template is not designed for them so I wouldn’t be interested in a 250. that 125 is enough. now if you stack it – tht might make a difference.

      good thought tho,

  • bmwf1guy says:

I just want to steer away from the new entrecard system for a minute and address your rant on droppers who don't stay and read.

I drop 300/day everyday and have a drop list and this site is on that list. I don't read the blog each and every time I drop simply because of reality. I have a career, a family, my own blog, and everything else that goes on in life. It seems every blog out there wants droppers to stop and read rather than drop and run. Reality is that's impossible unless I spend my entire day reading all 300 blogs I drop on and disregard everything else.

I appreciate the drops to my blog as every credit to me counts. I don't expect everyone to read and be interested in what I blog about either.

You thanked me for being a top dropper of yours in February and now stomp on me for dropping. That is a shame as I figured my visit was appreciated even if reality prevents me from reading whenever I drop.

Take this however you will, but I hope you can look at things from my point of view as well.

    • admin says:

wow a comment from the bmw guy .. a first.
even a rant counts to know that you at least pay attention. I drop on your blog as often as you do mine, and I certainly thanked you last month because you were a top dropper.

I however unlike you visit blogs that interest me, and read them before dropping. that’s the difference in a rant and a reply bmw guy. I’ve commented on several pieces on your blog and never once have you commented here in all the months we’v dropped on eachother.

that I guess makes it clear to me why you are a DROPPER and I am a Blogger. I btw drop 900 cards A Day 7 days a week and write 5 blogs, run a business and have a family. so whos’ busy ?

Thanks for Your Inspiration I’ll remember it when next I want to comment on your blog.

  • Dorothy L says:

All great thoughts and everyone will do what they can sleep with.

Two issues here for certain. One being the non-comment dropper as opposed to the comment dropper. When I signed up with Entre-card it was never for the fact that I would benefit with comments ..it was more an avenue that lead to new blogs, which it has ten-fold. So for me that is not an issue.

Bmwf has a very good point also. It is impossible to reach 300 drops & comment on those drops.
Personally I would take 1 day and strictly dedicate it to commenting. I have also noticed that dropping can become a full time job regardless of the drop 300 in 5 minutes system which was never effective for me & erred too many potential drops.

Second issue…you quoted it in your post…"and guess what, keep reading where he tells you that if you don’t like it – you can gtf out of Entrecard.. WOWWWWWWW"…..
That was when I realized they really will not care. They have an agenda and with bringing in other parties to support their profit margin….it reeks of politics all over.
In saying that…we the droppers are so not their concern as they feel that we are expendable.

I have already posted on my blog that I am leaving Entre-card behind as I doubt very much things will get better for those who do all the work….being us!

I hope that for those who are going to give it a chance that things do work for you. I like Shinade do not do well with ultimatum. I prefer choices with no strings…thank you!

Again awesome post and good luck to you all. I will see you around through blog-walking!

    ONWARD & UPWARD!

    DorothyL

  • Looks like I'm taking off my Entre-card ad this week…

  • DorothyL says:

Cheers for all who actually supported the squeaky wheel against Entrecards wanting to charge for refusal. I will admit I had no idea that they would budge on that one. They did and I will now sit back and hope things stay withing reason. It was nice to see that we can be strength in numbers!
Thanks for a great support post for all of us droppers!
    Have a very good day!
