Hopefully This will set the tone for today’s Sermon about Americas’ Real Moral Views
(end of clipping)
Today we come to you from the newspapers, tv and reality..
Yes this is America from Coast to Coast. Clearly there are some issues that the entire country seems to not be able to see eye to eye on. Most of them are things that matter to everyone. Just take a look at how far apart different parts of the country are on Gun Control; Lying; Gay Marriage and even Abortion.
While we’re on the subject of how split the American public is on controversial issues – how about starting with Racial Profiling ?
Faux News of course shows us who they are – yeah right,
peep this clipping from a very informative piece we found this weekend on just this problem -
A judge has ruled stop-and-frisk unconstitutional and racist. But will it stop?
In February of 2012, unarmed African American teenager Ramarley Graham was gunned down in his bathroom by NYPD officers claiming they saw a gun in the waistband of his pants. This case helped to mobilize thousands of New Yorkers to take to the streets more than a year ago to oppose the policy. The murder of Trayvon Martin just days after Ramarley’s death sparked a national discussion about the perils of racial profiling and the impact on young African-American men. All of this contributed to an atmosphere where stop-and-frisk could no longer go unchallenged.
According to a report by the Center for Constitutional Rights, between 2004 and 2012, more than 4 million people were stopped, and in less than 6 percent of those stops was an arrest made. More than 80 percent of those 4 million people were African American or Latino, raising the cry from those communities that stop-and-frisk was officially sanctioned racial profiling.
In her verdict Monday, U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin concurred, zeroing in on the racial discrimination at the core of the stop-and-frisk policy. She wrote, “Blacks and Hispanics who would not have been stopped if they were white… Blacks are likely targeted for stops based on a lesser degree of objectively founded suspicion than whites…[and Blacks and Latinos] were more likely to be subjected to the use of force than whites, despite the fact that whites are more likely to be found with weapons or contraband.”
Yet even though the verdict left no question that the policy consisted of racially motivated stops, the judge did not halt the practice. Instead, she ruled that the NYPD will be subjected to federal oversight and must institute reforms such as using body cameras to monitor of officers’ engagements with the general public.
To be sure, Judge Scheindlin has required that a federal monitor be charged with overseeing the NYPD’s compliance with her order, but why would the federal government be trusted to vigorously regulate and monitor the practices of the NYPD? Last July, Obama shocked many activists when he lavishly praised Ray Kelly as a potential head of Homeland Security. Obama’s fawning descriptions of Ray Kelly as “outstanding” and “very well qualified” raise questions about the ability or willingness of the Department of Justice to rein in the NYPD’s racist practices.
But there is a larger problem. Much of police work in the United States is based on racial profiling, whether police departments refer to it as a policy or whether it is simply everyday practice.
For example, when the New York Post and New York Daily Newsquotehysterical claims that New York City will turn into Chicago without stop-and-frisk, they are ignoring that the Chicago Police Department already engages in stop-and-frisk tactics. In Chicago the police refer to them as “Investigatory Street Stops,” during which the police may stop any individual they believe “is committing, is about to commit, or has committed a crime.” http://directives.chicagopolice.org/directives/data/a7a57be2-12a864e6-91c12-a864-e985efd125ff521f.html
This policy also allows the police to enter the personal data of whomever they have stopped into a database for up to one year regardless of whether or not the person stopped committed a crime or was a arrested. As Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy put it, “Stop-and-frisk is a tactic that every department in the country uses because we have to stop people when we’re going to arrest them. We have to frisk them if we’re in fear of a weapon.” But in Chicago, just as in New York, the pretext for stops are just as vague and open-ended.
As cities have becoming increasingly inhospitable to poor and working class Black and Latino communities, the police have been used to reinforce the boundary between distressed neighborhoods and the gentrified and economically vibrant areas where they are perceived not to belong. It was no coincidence that Judge Scheindlin commented in her ruling that one of the effects of stop-and-frisk to make Blacks and Latinos “feel unwelcome in some parts of the city.”
In many of these economically marginalized communities, public officials have come to rely on aggressive policing as the only public policy response to the social crises that have erupted as a result of chronic unemployment and growing poverty. Meanwhile, the mass closing of public schools, public clinics and hospitals, along with a range of other budget cuts that have reduced the public sector to a hollow shadow of itself, are undoing the very public programs that were intended to mitigate or undo the effects of poverty and, presumably, the crime that often comes along with it. Instead, in cities like Chicago, more policing has become the alternative. Despite falling crime statistics across the nation, police forces have become more militarized and aggressive and “proactive policing”—a term Ray Kelly uses for stop-and-frisk—is a central component of this. http://www.npr.org/2012/01/03/144627627/falling-crime-rates-challenge-long-held-beliefs
And because the communities disproportionately impacted by joblessness and poverty are communities of color, they are targeted by the police. This targeting is evidenced, in part, by overwhelmingly disproportionate arrests and imprisonment for drug use. Even though African Americans account for 12 percent of drug users, they account for 38 percent of drug arrests and account for 59 percent of persons serving time in state prison for drug offenses. http://www.naacp.org/pages/criminal-justice-fact-sheet

Now just say you are a latenight musical band leader on a latenight television show and world famous drummer – would you still get Racially Profiled ? Well lets think about that – Are You Black, Then Yeah You Will BE
The Grammy-winning drummer for “The Roots” was most recently profiled after a regular DJ gig, and it was only after he showed police officers a copy of his memoir that they let him go.
Even well known New York Rapper and Producer Talib Kweli spoke out recently on how many times he’s been through the whole Racial Profiling spiderweb globally, yes globally. This is really not good.
Take a look at an example of Racial Profiling that just happened at a Walmart one night in Houston TX for NO Reason at all.
Now can anyone tell us why those cops wanted to use a taser on the kids for filming a personal video in a walmart parking lot ? I’ve filmed plenty of times in parking lots including Walmart and rarely have I even received even a second look.
This was just clearly Racial Profiling and Police Terrorism; directed against Young Black Males Minding Their Own Business. They were clearly unjustly threatened and this constitutes a crime, yet who’s going to arrest the police ? There is no other way to see it.
Have You Seen This Photo Yet ?
A photo of police forcing an off-duty firefighter to the ground has gained national attention after it was revealed that the police action was taken after the man waved to the officers.
George Madison Jr., an African American firefighter and youth pastor in Evansville, Indiana was threatened with a taser by police when he committed no crime.
Madison says that he was riding his bike when he saw a police car approaching the same intersection.
Through his work on the local fire department, he is familiar with a number of the police officers in Evansville and he thought he recognized one of the men in the car so he waved.
That is not how the police interpreted it, however, as they claim that they thought he was flicking them off.
The officers stopped Madison, and, according to Madison, they were getting confrontational. He then took out his phone and went to call the police chief, Billy Bolin, who he is friends with. The officers told him to hang up the phone and get on the ground. When he hesitated before listening to their order, The Courier Press reports that the officer took out his taser.
‘It was literally maybe inches from my face. I immediately threw my hands in the air. What he asked me to do I was more than willing to do,’ Madison told the paper.
‘I said “Please don’t hurt me.” The next thing I know I’m laying down the ground and they cuffed me.’
The officers only began to back off after they learned that Madison was a firefighter and youth pastor.
‘Once they found out I was a fireman their attitude changed,’ he said.
Now there is an internal investigation underway within the police department and Madison’s friend Chief Bolin is involved.
‘I know (Madison), I like him. I know the officers involved, I like the officers involved. So, my job is to try to figure out the truth no matter who you like,’ he told local 14 News.
‘Just because somebody says something, we can’t automatically assume it’s the truth. I’m not saying I’m doubting anything that George has said. We have to hear both sides and get to the bottom of it.’
You have to hear both sides when your officers threaten a firefighter for just being friendly and waving at them ? this is pure 100% Homegrown American BS. The chief knows this is open and shut; and his officers engaged in Racial Profiling and Threatened a person who was not threatening them. there should be a civil rights case from this because there is no friendship in a life and death threat, ever.
Oh Yes Even White folks are calling it wrong, so when will the rest of the Law Enforcement community realize how this simple choice causes so many problems? Word Is that if they don’t, they’ll soon face even more problems when they attempt to become Frisky.
Then to further inflame the entire racism issue we have Uncle Russy throwing his money and sexism into the damn fracas. Why Russell Why would you fuck with Harriet Tubman ?
Don’t you know we have to come for you saying things like you said -
Ain’t nothin funny about this piece of trash Russell and you know it. Your insecure apology ain’t returnin your ghetto pass rich man. If you had kept your focus on Who You Are and Who Harriet Tubman Was You Would Have Known Better. But instead we have to now boycott your sorry ass.
Yeah you know it Russy you are getting boycotted by loads of Blackfolks because of this lil handiwork.
And yes Russell every one of us wonders what disconnected in your mind? Have you suddenly started to forget who you are really and where you really came from?
Has America really done this to You Russell?
Well lots of people are talking about it including a very intelligent Black Actor who knows why you don’t engage in this type of BS. Dig this -
The ancestors, from those who perished during the Trans-Atlantic Slave voyage to the souls who were raped and murdered on American soil, are turning over in their graves in utter disgust at the reality that a venture backed by a Black man would disrespect their sacred history by parodying it with a sex tape of their struggles.
On the very first day Russell Simmon‘s “All Def Digital” YouTube page was born, it managed to desecrate Harriet Tubman – one of the greatest Americans our country has even known.
All Def Digital published a video titled the “Harriet Tubman Sex Tape,” which parodies the efforts of a woman who successfully lead hundreds of enslaved Black men and women to freedom. During the three and half minute clip, the implication is that the only way Ms. Tubman was able to free so many Black people was for her to sleep with their White plantation owners.
Perhaps Simmons has let us know that he co-signs this coonery. Ironic, given that he would tap Michael Skolnik to defend Trayvon Martin, yet cannot stand up for the dignity of Black women.
Therefore, I am joining the Change.org petition of Crystal Fleming, demanding that Russell Simmons pull the video. In part, this is what the petition demands:
On the same day that Russell Simmons’ “All Def Digital” released this video, he hosted a party for the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, an organization that aims “to promote understanding and cooperation between and among ethnic groups and to reduce the existing tensions among diverse racial and ethnic communities.”
The irony and shame of this coincidence is appalling. Reducing “existing tensions” requires respecting and honoring the history and cultural heritage of all groups, including the enslaved ancestors of diasporic people.
Not only does the Harriet Tubman “sex tape” make a mockery of the history of transatlantic slavery, Harriet Tubman’s memory in particular and the painful reality of sexual exploitation and terror in the lives of enslaved women, but the video also contributes to rape culture by perpetuating the myth that women only “pretend” not to enjoy being forced into having sex against their will.
In short, not only is All Def Digital’s video vulgar and in extremely poor taste, it is also dangerous. As an influential cultural producer, father and chairman of the board for the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, Russell Simmons should not only remove the video but also apologize for ADD’s role in dishonoring the memory of enslaved women throughout the African diaspora and contributing to rape culture.
If Russell Simmons really cares about ethnic understanding, he will heed the call of this petition and end the coonery that his venture promotes.
(end of clipping)
The video was pulled and we are glad for that, but Russell should have known better from the jump. This just goes to show us how some folks get too far from the tree as they age and ripen. Maybe Russell doesn’t know that His Friend Michael Frisky Bloomberg wants to Fingerprint Everyone Living In Public Housing in NY. Yeah ?
There are so many problems with this that we won’t even get into it because Old Frisky is on his way out. He’s making all kinds of Lame Duck ass statements on his way out the door. It’s people like him and his friend Russell Simmons who bewilder us the most. If you have the resources and can help, why do you engage in hurtful behaviour instead ? this is what we just don’t get from this incident.
We know that America is trapped somewhere in the middle morally according to the charts we gave you to consider. this shows us that the attitudes of todays’ new thinkers are still not having much of an effect on the same old BS that’s been ruining life in America for most of Americans.
Until Uncle Russy and Frisky Bloomberg find their way out of America’s business we can be assured that their cash flow will continue to dictate their wall street values; and saying fuck you to the 99% who made them rich.
Just in case anyone thinks that living in America is a Happy Meal don’t forget about all those slave wage workers filling bags at the local fast food plantations; who will no doubt be frisked and racially profiled on their way home from the plantations. For What – about $5.50 an hr in most places in America. and who is going to be able to live on that.
Why else would somebody think of doing small time crime ? Because They’re Just Plain Fed Up and Frisky’s betting on that. This is why his Police Department makes more money than any other police organization in the world. Yes They Make Money on Crime in NYC. This is what they don’t want to discuss. They’d have to pay the real cost.
In fact how is one to pay rent, to pay utilities, to have food for a week, and to still have enough to get back and forth to that slave on Minimum Wage or Less ?
Well We Should Ask Uncle Russy cause he of course doesn’t know any of those kinds of folks. That’s because they buy his products with the few pennies they can scrape up and save. Most know that they are invisible to him when he sees them out of the window of his chauffered fleet; while they are being stopped and frisked in his gear.
Moving uptown has it’s advantages and for some-folks it makes it easy to forget where you started. That’s why we hope that today we all take a moment and remember Who We Are; and Where We Came From REALLY. Because it seems the world has lost touch with itself. Especially America.
Wow America, are you sure this is One Nation ?
