There was a moment in Sunday night’s “60 Minutes” piece on revelations from the 2008 presidential campaign in which Steve Schmidt, John McCain’s former top campaign strategist, was asked if the choice of Sarah Palin “was about winning an election, not necessarily about who’s gonna be best as vice president.”
“My job was to give political advice,” Schmidt responded. “We needed to do something bold to try to win the race.” (More from “60 Minutes”)
That exchange is worth remembering when considering the controversy that broke over the weekend involving Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who, it was revealed, privately stated that he believed Barack Obama was well suited to a presidential run because he is a “light-skinned” African American “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”
DALLAS, TX – Sometime last week, Diann Jones, Vice Chairman of the Collin County Republican Party, sent an email to local Republican clubs requesting support against a state bill that would impose a $50 tax on guns. Sadly, Ms. Jones chose to close the email with the following racist statement: “Another terrific idea from the black house and its minions.” (Source)
Several persons who received the email were offended by the comment and fired back:
“As a Republican elected official, I find this hostile race-baiting inappropriate and counterproductive. We are fighting to win the hearts and minds of the citizens of this County, the State and this Country. This only makes that fight more difficult.” State District Judge Chris Oldner (in email response to Ms. Jones)
District Judge Robert Dry reinforced Judge Oldner’s sentiment and forwarded his response to other county and district judges with the following recommendation:
“Each of you should also go on record as supporting his response. Your silence can create an ambivalent impression that leaves Chris in left field.”District Judge Robert Dry
These are Republicans that I can respect. Something tells me that they’re likely moderate Republicans (i.e. reasonable) – exactly the type being pushed out by the far right segment of the GOP. Sad.
What was Ms. Jones’ response? First, she fired back at Judge Dry on Tuesday with the following email:
“If someone is offended by something in an e-mail, I don’t think forwarding it on to 50 other people [that never originally saw it] is really prudent … That action simply multiplies the offensive e-mail and enlarges the damage.”
Second, she emailed various judges, including Judge Oldner, on Tuesday with the following “explanation”:
“This was an e-mail that I received and forwarded unaware of the racist comment. The alleged racist comment was not mine. Apparently, the person who forwarded me the e-mail failed to see the comment as did many others – me included.”
Another lame “I had no idea” excuse from a Republican engaged in racist behavior.
Everytime I see these type of pictures, I wonder how the person feels knowing the entire world will be looking at them in their stupidity; casting total negativity to them for their ridiculously racist pranks.
Spanish Fans have done this TWICE – to the same driver, WHY ?

Spanish Fans Show up in Blackface, Mock Formula One Racer Lewis Hamilton

At yesterday’s Spanish Grand Prix, Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton was met by fans dressed up in blackface and taunting him for the color of his skin.
It echoed the same events that had occurred last year in Barcelona, at another Formula One race in which Hamilton was repeatedly harassed by a small group of fans in the crowd.
Eddie Jordan, a famous racing veteran and media analyst, was furious with the blatant display of racism and said, “This is utterly and totally unacceptable. After what happened previously here with Lewis, the fans at this circuit still have a suspended sentence hanging over them.”
Circuit director Ramon Pedrera tried to calm the crowd as the tension escalated, telling the crowd that “No type of offensive behavior can be tolerated.” The sport’s governing body, the FIA, has threatened to pull the Spanish Grand Prix from the circuit, but a spokesman for the FIA insists that “These types of fans are the absolute minority.”
Indeed, Hamilton said just before yesterday’s race that Barcelona was one of his favorite cities to visit and that the people were “warm and friendly.” Apparently, Spanish racing fans have started to look down upon Hamilton due to his intense rivalry with a local favorite, driver Fernando Alonso.

Prince Harry Hewitt (pictured above) was at the centre of yet ANOTHER racism row yesterday after a black comedian revealed that the Prince informed him recently that : “You don’t sound like a black chap.”
Hapless Harry reportedly made the remark to comedian Stephen K Amos after he had performed a stand up routine for the Prince of Wales’ 60th birthday celebrations. Speaking on British TV yesterday, Amos said that the incident occurred as he joined a line-up of stars after the performances to meet the royals.
Asked on TV if the remark had been made in jest, Amos (pictured above) replied: “I hope it was.” The comedian, who has appeared on various TV shows in the UK, later put the comment down to a poor attempt at making banter.
This new row comes just a month after Prince Harry was accused of racism when it emerged he had referred to Sandhurst army colleague Ahmed Raza Khan as “our little Paki friend.”
Really our arrogant little preening Prince, who thankfully has at least refrained recently from wearing Nazi uniform in public, still obviously needs to learn to shut his mouth – and perhaps get his ears checked too.
It’s maybe a wise man that knows his own father (maybe) but even a regal thickhead should be aware that in the current climate discretion is the better part of political correctness. You never know, if he learns his lines well, a grateful nation may even strike up another medal or two for him.

Controversial deejay Vybz Kartel is spearheading a movement to challenge the Broadcasting Commission’s recent ban placed on all daggering songs and songs that require bleeping.
The artiste is not only pleading with his fellow entertainers to unify against the ban implemented by the Broadcasting Commission, but he is also enlisted the assistance of his lawyer, Michael E. Deans, in an attempt to get a judicial review.
“Whether yuh seh ‘Gaza’ or ‘Gully’, you need to stand up against the commission. The artistes need to lobby for dancehall and music and for people’s freedom of choice,” he said.
The deejay further said: “The ban is dangerous to the culture of the dancehall. Soon, the next step might be that we can’t do social commentary songs, weed songs, songs about the inconsistency of government. I believe what they are doing is bordering on intellectual slavery and dictatorship with traces of communism.” When THE STAR spoke to Deans, he said he was looking into Kartel’s legal options. Intelligent person “Vybz Kartel is a very deep, introspective and intelligent person who is concerned about his freedom of speech and is outraged and rightfully so.”
Kartel came under public scrutiny recently because of the content of his collaboration with Spice, Rampin’ Shop. The song is said to be sexually explicit and has been publicly bashed by a number of persons, including a newspaper columnist.

Following these attacks the Broadcasting Commission announced its latest stance against ‘daggering and bleeped songs’ last Friday. This move, however, is not one that Kartel will easily accept. “This (the ban) is not a stand against music but dancehall music, and in effect, ghetto people who are fighting for their livelihood. If you listen to the radio, all you’re hearing is hip-hop music which 90 per cent are all edited versions of the original.
It’s a double standard if Candy Shop, Lollipop and I Kissed A Girl can be played so, too, can songs like Rampin’ Shop, it’s a straight double standard.” He called on the fans of dancehall music to call the Broadcasting Commission to lodge complaints against other forms of music with violent and sexual content in soca and hip hop. And if all this fails, “…we ask Jamaicans to boycott radio,” he said. Larome Graham learned the hard way that ‘daggering’, done without the permission of the recipient, can be a dangerous and bloody exercise.
The 34-year-old attended a recent street dance held in the Southside community in central Kingston, and obviously feeling the dancehall spirit, he decided to follow the instructions of the selector and ‘dagger’ the nearest female. It turns out, however, that she was not in the mood for that sort of thing and sank her teeth into Graham’s bottom lip to show her disapproval.
He told THE STAR; “Mi deh a Chubby Dread memorial, rouna Southside and di selector seh mi mus hold har. So mi start dagger and she jus spin roun an bite mi. Mi bawl out fi di people dem hear mi. Di people dem seh mi mus hold on pan her, but she neva waan let mi go.” Graham said he was later told that the woman, who happens to be a friend of his, was drunk. He has also decided not to press charges against her, saying “Mi nuh want dem lock her up.”
Drunk or not, what his ‘friend’ did has taught Graham a lesson well learnt. From now on, he will only dagger with permission. “Mi nah dance wid no girl. If she waan dance wid mi, mi wi do it. Mi nuh waan get no more bite.”
Daggering, the subject of many recent songs, is one of the latest moves to hit the local dancehall scene. The dance is sexual in nature and involves a man gyrating suggestively and somewhat aggressively, with a woman.
