‘WIFEY’ CHARGED IN LOVE TRIANGLE

- Accused of slamming vehicle into matie’s car

A weird love triangle between a man, his wife and another woman with whom he lives took a turn for the worse last week when police arrested wife after she was accused of slamming her vehicle into her matie’s car.

MR VEGAS – VIAGRA

As if that was not weird enough, the husband, who is separated, but not divorced from his wife, turned up and posted bail for her.

Information reaching THE STAR indicates that the man moved out of the couple’s home and took up residence with the other woman. Police say last Wednesday, the matie reported that she was at home when she was visited by the wife who drove up and demanded her husband.

The two got into an argument, during which the matie went into her Honda Civic. She was about to leave the premises when the wife drove her Toyota Hiace into the matie’s car.

mr vegas – nuh fren

The woman drove to the Spanish Town Police Station and made a report. Following investigations, the wife was taken into custody and charged with malicious destruction of property. But officers were surprised when the husband turned up at the station, posted the $50,000 bail for his wife and left with her.

Police say the matter is to be heard in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court today.

50-Y-O FORCED TO DRINK ACID –

Woman dies after also being attacked with pot

The cops now have in custody a Tivoli man who they allege forced a woman to drink acid and beat her in the head with a Dutch pot.

Rhona Graham, 50, who was also a Tivoli resident, died in hospital a week after being admitted in critical condition.

Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that about three weeks ago, Graham was involved in an argument with her neighbours. The accused man, a respected and long-time thug from the community was called to quell the matter.

Before he could do so, however, he and Graham got into a tussle and he was said to have been assaulted by the enraged woman.

caustic soda

This was not taken lightly and allegations are that Graham’s life took a deadly turn within the next few minutes as the contents of a bottle of caustic soda was thrown down her throat.

But all was not over, Graham was then struck in the head repeatedly with a pot. She was later rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital.

The man implicated in the incident then fled the community but was held reportedly with an illegal firearm by police in Manchester on Wednesday.

His identification is being withheld, however, as he is not yet charged.

Head of the Kingston West Division, Superintendent Hugh Bish, told THE WEEKEND STAR the man is to be handed over to them after which investigations into Graham’s death will continue.

However, Superintendent Bish said there may be some difficulty in their investigation. “You know those communities operate with a code of silence so nobody wants to speak … . As a result, we will have to try to gain more forensic evidence … . We can go for him anytime now but we are not yet sure if he will even be charged,” Superintendent Bish said.

As such, the police are urging residents to come forward with any information they may have to assist with the investigations.

Relatives of the deceased woman declined to comment. However, some residents expressed disgust at the actions that claimed the woman’s life. “Is a wicked act, me a tell yu … . Di whole a di woman inside bun out … har head did soft like porridge. Nobody couldn’t even go look pon har a di hospital or dem woulda vomit,” one resident said.

5-Y-O GIRL SEXUALLY MOLESTS CLASSMATE

- Boy’s mother upset that school did not inform her

The mother of a five-year-old boy who was reportedly sexually molested at school by his female classmate is hopping mad at the school authorities who, she says, neglected to tell her about the incident until weeks later.

THE STAR was told that during the alleged incident, the boy was approached by the little girl, who unzipped his pants. It is reported that she placed the boy’s member into her mouth and then told him to put his mouth on her flesh. The boy, THE STAR was told, made a report to a teacher.

Traumatised and furious, the boy’s mother, Delmara Bennett, told THE STAR that she was not made aware of the incident until weeks after, when she went to a parent-teacher meeting and complained about her child being flogged by the school secretary.

She told THE STAR, “If I didn’t go to the PTA and speak out, I wouldn’t know what is happening. I work near to the school, I drop him off and pick him up every day. I am always there. They have my number and his father’s number. They could have contacted us.”

Bennett, who is now pregnant with another child, told THE STAR that she always participates in the school’s activities and is well known to the administration

, so finding her would not have been a problem. She said, “I am upset to know that my child was going through certain things and I don’t know. Look what my child was going through. My child is at risk and nothing has been done. It shocked me so much.”

pornographic material

Bennett told THE STAR that she was told that the girl had committed a similar act at another school and had been transferred to her son’s school. “I just can’t understand these schools,” she said.

The principal of the Clarendon-based school told THE STAR that it was not a deliberate move to hide the incident from Bennett. She said incidents of that nature happen at the school and many other basic schools quite frequently, and it was hard for administrators to remember everyone. She, however, said Bennett’s son had been counselled after the incident. She also said it was customary for parents to be contacted, but said this case “missed” them.

She also told THE STAR that the teachers did not actually witness the incident, but only heard about it from the student. She said parents are often told at PTA meetings of the various improper acts being carried out by some students, and said pornographic material and condoms were often taken from some of the students, who range in age from three to six.

Pyschiatrist Dr Leahcim Semaj said such behaviour from children is evidence of the fact that they live what they learn. He said children often do not understand the symbolism or implications of the things they do, and the best approach for a parent or counsellor to take is to place as little weight on the issue as possible.

He said, “What you need to do is, in a general way, say that is inappropriate behaviour, without creating too much anxiety or excitement, as that may do more harm than good. If you start to label a child, that could have a negative effect.” He said if the opposite is done, the children may develop issues with sex in the future.

TEACHER SHOCKS SCHOOL, STUDENTS

- Bends over, shows principal her buttocks

Students and teachers of an all-age school in St Andrew last week received the shock of their lives when a female teacher at the institution bent over and spread her buttocks in an act of disrespect to the principal.

A teacher at the school, who yesterday spoke to THE STAR on condition of anonymity, said the incident had left many at the school outraged at the very nerve of the teacher, whom term as “ghetto fabulous“.

The principal would not confirm or deny the incident. However, an official at the school said that the episode occurred as the principal approached the teacher with a camera attempting to take a picture of her (the teacher) selling students snacks from her classroom. The source said this was against established rules at the school. However, the teacher had breached this guideline several times and continued to do so, despite numerous warnings.

Lady Saw – Chat to Mi Back

When the principal approached her, she (the teacher) just bent over and showed the principal her bottom, she did it twice,” the source said. “She did not pull down her clothes or anything, but you still get the message.”

obnoxious behaviour

The source continued: “She did this in full view of others, there were some of her students there who ran about afterwards saying that ‘teacher gave principal her …”

Information reaching The Star says that the teacher, who teaches grade-eight students, is well-known for her defiance and obnoxious behaviour.

She nuh ave nuh manners, nuh nuttin,” one person said. “Yuh tell her morning and she not even responds. She won’t even dress appropriately for work. She come here dressed in rubber flip-flop, tight colourful pants, tight blouse that sometimes shows her belly. Plus, she wears the most ghetto weaves every day.” The source continued: “The principal even tried going to classroom recently to carry out an assessment exercise and she shut the classroom door, locking out the principal.”

Further claims are that the teacher is almost always late for her classes and exercises very little supervision over her students. One official at the school said that students who pass through the teacher’s class usually play catch up in grade 9 as they are taught very little while under her tutoring. “All she does is sit, sells snacks, and stares into space, she hardly teaches anything,” the official disclosed.

Attempts to get a contact for the teacher at the middle of the saga were unsuccessful.

The school official told The Star that the institution would be taking disciplinary actions against the teacher for her disrespectful display of unprofessionalism.

Kartel Walks; Mavado Dumped and Fined; Vegas Burns; MumaSaw Strips;

this is probably our first Yard Update for the year 2009.

Politics it nah nuff, so we fall offa we routine, but we start pick it up back so.

Today we ago share some entertainment news updates wid unnu;  including the info on Taurrus Riley and Jimmy Riley’s Arrest on Violence which includes a video and then a joke.

Rebel Salute’s 16th anniversary honored President Barack Obama

By yardFlex on Yard News

rebel.JPGRebel Salute went all night until daylight last Saturday, with patrons getting what they were promised and more.

Marking its 16th year the show shook Port Kaiser Sports Club in St Elizabeth, with invigoration stamped on Tony Rebel himself who stirred up the crowd with his, “Another Rebel Salute Again” and so many other great shots. This was a huge celebration appropriately billed as, an Obama pre-inauguration event.

It was a refreshing new emphasis in the chants from artists, who echoed a steady note of respect and joy for the historical first taking place in the United States. President Barack Obama’s picture served as the backdrop and his achievement, a well espoused theme.

Despite the disappointing lack of luster in a few of the more vintage moments on stage, the concert was popping, with its numerous band changes going smoothly for the most part. Seasoned hosts, Mutabaruka, Isis, Jenny Jenny and Cordel Green were the MC’s who worked well in keeping things flowing.

Well received by the crowd, artists like, Lady G, Mykal Rose, Cherine Anderson, Luciano, Konshens, I Wayne, Tarrus Riley and Queen Ifrica gave stirring performances.

Tarrus and his new Empress
Tarrus.jpg

It seems like Tarrus and Etana are no longer an item as his new tune “Cold Kisses” seem to be written for Etana….”Cant believe that your love is fading, can’t believe you pushing me away”. However he was spotted at Rebel Salute with a new empress from the Bahamas on his arm, I guess she is keeping him warm. And guess what the new empress is definitely ROYAL…what a substance.

This is Taurrus Riley – Start Anew
Word is it’s For His Dad Jimmy Riley; who was recently cited in court for beating up his wife; and threatening her life. shame on you Jimmy and we did think unnu was a Rasta.

Jimmy Riley arrested, fingerprinted and bailed for punching wife

By yardFlex on Yard News

jimmyriley.jpgJimmy Riley is one of Jamaica’s hard-hitting reggae icons whose artistic excellence lives on in his son Tarrus. However the reggae star has a bit of a lesson to learn about keeping the heavyweight act for the studio and stage, rather than following up belligerence with physical violence.

Last week Riley appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court and faced the serious charge of hitting his wife. Sandra Bramwell-Riley was also present in the court, where she backed up her police report, given on January 4 at the Stony Hill Police Station.

In her report, Bramwell-Riley alleged that following an argument that developed while she traveled with her husband, he hit her hard in her face and later threatened her with a knife. Injured by the attack, Bramwell-Riley followed through with charging her husband and told the court that this was not the first time she has been abused in this manner by him.

Riley, whose real name is Martin Riley was also said to have hit his wife on other occasions. When Bramwell-Riley went to police on after a previous similar incident, she was told to go home and try working out the domestic dispute.

In Riley’s defence, his lawyer, Peter Champagnie offered the rebuttal that the alleged incident did not happen as reported by his wife. In his view, the matter should be referred to the Dispute Resolution Foundation or for counseling; not an option for Bramwell-Riley who no longer lives in the matrimonial home, she said.

Riley will return to court on January 30 and was ordered to be fingerprinted by Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown who extended his bail.

Bramwell-Riley told the court that Riley has been steadily pleading with her to drop the charges since she made the police report.<

Mavado Was Unsuccessful in Busting BET Because Of His NASTINESS. YOW BET, Maybe you start watch video before you program dem finally.

No “I’m So Special” for BET 106 & Park.
Movado32225.JPGAfter all the hype surrounding Mavado’s “I’m So Special” video, it did not premier on BET 106 & Park, however it was launched via the internet.

According to his management, intervention from someone in the legal department prevented the video from airing. The person had censorship issues with the video, as it relates to “excessive display of alcohol,” and “careless use of women as writhing set dressings.”

People can now watch the video online.

mavado_so_special_video_photos.jpgWe were as surprised as everyone at BET’s decision not to follow through on their promise to premier the “So Special” video on yesterday’s 106 & Park. Despite 106 & Park’s presenters hyping the premier for several days, including showing clips from the video, a last minute intervention by someone in the legal department prevented the video from airing.

“The anticipation was very high for the BET premier,” said Mavado’s management team. “We weren’t notified until late in the day that there was a last minute objection by one of the legals over there, who had a censorship issue. He objected to “excessive display of alcohol” and “careless use of women as writhing set dressings!” The video is now available to watch online so people can make up their own minds about that.”

Mavado’s management went on to say that when the video was first submitted to BET they flagged several issues and were sent 3 different edits before approval.

“The show’s programmer had passed the video and had been running promos so she was livid at the decision,” he continued. “It’s disappointing but all is not lost. If anything this may help publicise the video even more – Mavado can’t seem to step without some form of controversy!”

And The Double Standard for the same charge, Only  On Stage In A Show In JA Can Man Cuss Togetha; Both Get Arrest Togetha; and Only One Man Pay fi dem typa crime. Whaaaa ? Kartel Walk, Vado Pay.  this censoring drama start get expensive and thick. u no see it.

Mavado fined $3,000 for swearing

David Mavado Brooks
Entertainer David ‘Mavado’ Brooks was fined $3,000 or 10 days for using indecent language, when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court, yesterday.

Brooks, who was unrepresented, pleaded guilty with explanation before RM C. Wiltshire, who gave him the chance to explain.

It was a lyrical battle between myself and another entertainer your honour. Things got out of hand and I lose mi temper and curse de bad words. I am sorry,” he said.

Displeased fans

Having heard the entertainer, the RM fined him. He paid the fine and left the court building surrounded by a number of persons said to be his supporters.

The fine was not pleasing to some persons on the outside of the court.

The entertainer was dragged before the court following a verbal clash between himself and fellow entertainer Adidjah ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer at the 25th staging of the Sting stage show at Jamworld on Boxing Day, December 26, last year.

Kartel walks free

Vybz Kartel – File

Several eyebrows were raised in the Spanish Town RM Court yesterday after a judge admonished and discharged entertainer Adidjah ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer of indecent language.

The entertainer, represented by attorney-at-law Michael Deans, pleaded guilty before RM Simone Maddix. His lawyer told the court that although his client is guilty of the offence, he knows that the entertainer is very sorry for his misdeeds.

“Your Honour, I know the name Vybz Kartel might send off a negative vibes. However, I am representing Adidjah Palmer who is a totally different person from the entertainer persona. And it is in this light that we want to say we are sorry to the music fraternity and Jamaica at large for what happened at Sting,” he said.

His responsibilities

He further mentioned that the entertainer is a responsible citizen and in this light having owned up to his responsibilities, he will be asking the court to admonish and discharge him of the offence. After hearing the submission RM Maddix spoke with the entertainer.

“Your lawyer said that Mr Palmer is different from Vybz Kartel but you need not be different, I cannot see how people use indecent language. It is negative and you being a responsible person must do things that reflect you as a totally responsible individual,” she told him.

The entertainer was subsequently told that he was free to go and the case was admonished and discharged.

“I am pleased that things turned out this way, but I must admit that sincerity goes a long way. It was a sincere request that my lawyer put across as indeed I am sorry for the whole thing,” Kartel said after leaving the court.

Kartel is accused of using indecent language at the Sting show on Boxing Day last year.

Mr. Vegas’ “Tek Weh Yuh Self” Makes Vibe Magazine’s ‘80 Best Songs of 08′

By yardFlex on Yard News

Vegas Performance pic 2.jpgThe fire of Mr. Vegas’ killer single “Tek Weh Yuh Self” continues to burn after years of getting love in the dancehalls. Recently, the monster hit “Tek Weh Yuh Self” was voted #74 on Vibe Magazine’s “80 Best Songs of 08″ list.

Mr. Vegas’ presence on the Vibe list is by all means a pleasant surprise. And even more impressive is the fact that Mr. Vegas is one of only two dancehall artists to make the billing, the second is Mavado. The phone lines have been ringing incessantly since the January 2009 issue of Vibe was released.

According to Vibe Magazine, “Tek Weh Yuh Self” thrived in part because it featured “one of dancehall’s perennial hitmakers over a stripped-down, spring-loaded track.”

“It is overwhelming to know that the music that I am making has longevity,” says Vegas sincerely. “Even though I recorded ‘Tek Weh Yuh Self’ some time ago — each time I perform it, the audience reacts as if it is a brand new song.”

It’s clear that Mr. Vegas has the ability to meticulously deliver straight dancehall music to the doorsteps of a mainstream audience. Making Vibe’s “80 Best Songs of 08″ is just another example of Mr. Vegas’ universal appeal. The dancehall star shared a spot on the list along with heavy weight artists including Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, T-Pain, Lil’ Wayne, Chris Brown, Rihanna and Jay Z to name a few.

“Tek Weh Yuh Self” is just one of Mr. Vegas’ hits that are receiving attention. The omnipotent “Mus Come a Road” continues to dominate loads of international charts. And the steamy new single “Deh Pon De Scene” is killing the place.

cannibis1.jpgWith quite a few American ‘drug war’ veterans whispering unsupportive stuff about ‘the high life’ in President elect Barack Obama’s ears, advocates for either legalizing, decriminalizing or legislating medical marijuana use, are super anxious about what is to come.

Well at least one writer believes decriminalization will come, but not until Obama’s second term and he states in the Esquire Newsletter, that the marijuana controversy closely resembles prohibition issues of days gone by.

Drawing reference to Franklin D Roosevelt (FDR) and his big move that saved the United States banking system back in the day, the journalist said FDR’s legalization of beer, soon after being elected could be likened to the reaction from placing a stick of dynamite inside a log jam. Stubborn blockages became cleared.

Clearing the way for less pile up of non-violent prisoners, as well as the path to boundless economic fortification; a move that would mimic stepping in the shoes of FDR within the 2008 context, could prove beneficial, but it is not as if Obama hasn’t considered and ultimately shelved the idea on easing up pot laws.

Macy Gray Ready to Sing for Jamaica’s Sick Children

By yardFlex on Yard News

macy-gray.jpgMacy Gray, will be joining Shaggy on the Jamaica House lawn on January 3, 2009, for the kick off fundraiser of the New Year. The 41 year-old singer, producer and actress is keen on taking part in this effort that is slated to benefit The Bustamante Hospital for Children.

The brainchild of Grammy Award winner and 2009 nominee, ‘Mr. Lover Lover’ himself, the show is expected to facilitate the garnering of much needed funds for Kingston’s ‘Children’s Hospital’. Earlier this year Shaggy decided to throw the money gathering shin-dig, since it was heart-wrenching for him to see children in dire need of treatment and care that is available but not attainable because of low medical care budgets.

The concert is expected to raise enough money to acquire equipment that can save lives and put sick children and their parents at ease. The Bustamante Hospital for Children has the finest specialists, but if it is not operating in line with modern scientific and technical advancement, then most attempts at healing will be futile. Recognizing this grim and harsh reality, Shaggy threw himself into ‘Save The Children’ mode.

Macy Gray did not hesitate in accepting Shaggy’s invitation, as she too is no stranger to philanthropic involvement. Gray, who became a huge success in 1999 after her debut album, “On How Life Is’ sold over three million copies, has given back to her community through raising money for Habitat for Humanity and by creating the Macy Gray Music Academy for needy children, among other endeavors.

Toots Foundation calls for united philanthropic front

tootsedit copy.jpgWith the idea that coming together can create a stronger force for assisting in the development of crucial infrastructures in Jamaica, The Toots Foundation, seeks to join with altruists of like minds.

Announcing their recent donations of J$2 Million to several organizations, the 501(3)c non-profit foundation, wants to coordinate efforts with other foundations in order to prevent duplication of services that are geared towards similar goals.

Toots’ former primary school, May Pen Primary, was amongst the recipients of hefty donations, recently, as were, The Jamaica Cancer Society, Bustamante Children’s Hospital, Victoria Jubilee Hospital and the Salvation Army School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

In a release from The Toots Foundation, each of the institutions receiving donations expressed deep gratitude and described their crucial need for upgrading facilities.

D’Angel and Beenie perform together in Ocho Rios

28 Dec 2008 | by Phlex, Staff Writer

Dancehall’s first lady, D’Angel, got a sterling introduction to a large audience at a show in Ocho Rios on Christmas Eve when her husband, Beenie Man called her out.

“Can I call up my wife?” Beenie asked to loud screams from the audience.

When she hit the stage, Beenie Man, ever the showman, then announced: ‘yea, man, see the artiste yu a wait pon here’. The crowd almost lost its mind. The two then did ‘One Man’, before D’Angel took over and went into her set, delivering the chart-burners, Blaze, Baby Father and Downtown Girl. She paused to introduce the popular Caan Stall before closing with panache with her most recent number one, Stronger.

After the show, she signed numerous autographs and spent time chatting with her fans. D’Angel is the spokesperson for G Force’s current promotional ‘Urge to Merge’ campaign and sales have reportedly tripled since the announcement that she would spearhead the new campaign.

D’Angel recently performed at Pepsi Teensplash and performed last night at a benefit concert for a school at the Hilton Hotel in New Kingston.

Jamaicas’ Death Toll Rises

By yardFlex on Yard News

toll.jpgThe death toll continues to rise with two more added to the list of murders since the start of the 2008. On Tuesday, at approximately 6:30am, the bodies of Marvin Bloomfield, 32 and Delroy Smith, 31, both of Watson Grove, Caymanas, St. Catherine were discovered with multiple stab and chop wounds in the trunk of a gray Nissan Vanette in Rema, St. Andrew.
Approximately 1,543 people have been murdered since the beginning of 2008 with the numbers likely to increase and surpass the 1,574 recorded for 2007.
There is concern, however, that women and children continue to make up a significant portion of the number murdered each month with police data reflecting that nine children and seven women were among the 122 people killed in November.
Government has suggested tough legislation to tackle the increasing crime rate in the island by proposing to increase the number of days a suspect can be detained without bail to 60.
This bill has created controversy and was opposed by human-rights advocates and some lawyers. The proposal has been returned to the joint select committee of parliament for consideration, without a signature from the Opposition People’s National Party.

Jamaica’s MP’s plan to boost economy

By yardFlex on Yard News

The planned package includes tax cuts and loans of up tp $6.7 million from Jamaica’s Development Bank to help the tourism industry with their cash flow problems. Mr. Golding says that these measures will improve the country’s bauxite industry which is stuggling to stay above water as demand for the chief ore in aluminum has plunged.
He also has plans to initiate job retraining programs as well as to formulate methods to reduce or suspend motgage payments for the unemployed. On Sunday night’s broadcast he reassured the population that “We are going to weather the storm.”

Mr. Vegas performs before record-breaking crowd in Kenya

19 Dec 2008 | by Contrubuted Release

For the second time in his vibrant career, Jamaican artiste, Mr. Vegas embarked on a journey to “The Motherland” of Africa to headline the mega-concert “Generation Jipange” in Nairobi, Kenya.  There, the popular singjay delivered his hits to nearly 70,000 people.  According to officials, this was the largest event of its kind to take place in Kenya.

When Mr. Vegas graced the stage, he was moved by the massive audience.  Backed by Thugz band, Mr. Vegas proceeded to deliver a set of his hits to fans — jumpstarted by strong performances of “Hot It Up” and “Hot Gal Today.”  Mr. Vegas followed his chart-toppers with a medley of Reggae favorites, which invigorated the youth.  He was later joined on stage by over-the-top dancer Boricia.  The crowd went wild as Boricia displayed the latest dancehall moves in the most eccentric fashion. Clearly, the Kenyan youth embraced the “dance” in dancehall music.  By the immense turn out, it was clear to see Mr. Vegas’ reach and the universal power of Reggae music.

“Generation Jipange” refers to a new youth movement in Kenya centered on empowering youth to stay healthy, pursue education/employment and be positive. The free, day-long concert, which took place at Nairobi’s  Uhuru Gardens, was filled to capacity as early as 8:00 AM. The event was televised by Kenyan networks. In addition to Mr. Vegas, the concert had at least 14 other acts on the bill — including popular Kenyan artist Jua Cali.

“This was such a great experience………and it was great to return home,” says Mr. Vegas.  “I was truly honored  to be part of an event to motivate Kenyan youth.”

Mr. Vegas’ billing at “Generation Jipange” marks his second time performing in Africa and the largest performance of his career.  It was the singjay’s respected summer stint in Uganda that made him a prime candidate to headline the Kenyan concert. Inevitably, the well publicized and attended “Generation Jipange” concert granted Mr. Vegas with high visibility.  It won’t be surprising when Mr. Vegas becomes a household name in Africa. Plans are underway for Mr. Vegas to again perform in “The Motherland” early next year.

It’s been a year of worldwide magnitude for Mr. Vegas, as he has been blessed with opportunities to entertain thousands of people across the globe. Aside from the record-breaking crowd in Kenya, the dancehall favorite has thoroughly captivated colossal crowds in Japan (40,000 people) and Guyana (28,000).

COPS TO CHARGE MAVADO, KARTEL?  Say artistes used profanity and threatening words at Sting

( L – R ) Kartel and Mavado

The St Catherine South police are planning to charge Adidjah ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer and David ‘Mavado’ Brooks for breaches of the Town and Communities Act following their performances at Sting 2008 last Saturday morning.

Crime chief Detective acting Deputy Superintendent Carl Malcolm told THE STAR yesterday that during their performances at the 25th staging of the event at Jamworld, Portmore, St Catherine, the entertainers used profanity-laced and threatening lyrics. He said that this has encouraged them to consider laying formal charges against the men.

The tape

“Having viewed the tape (of the event), we are now in the process of going full fledge at pursuing charges against Mr Palmer and Mr Brooks and any other entertainer who we find in breach of the act,” Malcolm said.

He said that the Town and Communities Act covered the use of profanity and threatening words, a number of which were used during the entertainers’ performances.

The senior investigator said that he was still watching the tape and as soon as the process was completed, they will go ahead with charging the men. He did not, however, say when this will happen

The artistes, Kartel and Mavado, were involved in a highly publicised lyrical clash at Sting. The event attracted a large crowd and was for the most part incident-free. There were a large number of police and security personnel present as well.

Efforts by THAT STAR to speak to both artistes about this development proved futile, but sources close to them said that they were not aware of this.

STING clash 1-all

It really looked like a draw in the end as hot ticket items, Vybz Kartel and Mavado left nothing unsaid during their lyrical war at the world famous annual reggae concert, STING.

Last night Portmore’s Jamworld Entertainment Complex was overflowing with STING followers, who came from all over Jamaica and the world. Many were anxiously awaiting the big clash between two of dancehall’s most respected and adored toasters today; and the two, known lovingly as, ‘Addi’ and the ‘Gully God’ did not disappoint.

If words could actually jump out of mouths and fatally puncture hearts, then there would be many bodies laying around after lyrical dancehall wars; and this time the ‘dissing’ was more than ‘fighting words’, it was over the top and murderous. Movado graced the stage before his opponent, looking like a cross between ‘Mafia King and Lone Ranger’ – suited out in all black and wearing a black mask. He called out Vybz Kartel, who entered the ‘battle-field’ looking ready for combat, decked out in full army gear.

Then the clash was on. It seemed like a very close competition as the artists went toe to toe with slicing lyrics and their fans urged them on with equal amounts of vigor,- screaming forward and roaring at every phrase.

At first, it appeared as if Mavado was on the losing end, as he was getting booed by the crowd, while Kartel had them going wild. Kartel’s antics must have sparked some flame inside Mavado though, because as soon as he brought out a coffin with “R.I.P. Barber Boy” written on it, the ‘Gully God’ first pushed the coffin off into the crowd, ‘shook his lion mane’ and started to roar.
