On The Strength of Oneness,

January 15, 2010Dear Friend,
The earthquake in Haiti has brought unspeakable tragedy to a country that was still struggling to recover from a series of devastating storms in 2008 and is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Our government is mounting a significant effort to get assistance into Haiti as quickly as possible. You can help here.In addition to providing desperately needed humanitarian aid, the United States can also help by granting Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians currently in the United States. TPS would allow Haitians to remain in the U.S. and to work legally for a designated period of time, which would also allow them to help support their families and communities suffering in Haiti.U.S. law allows TPS to be granted when persons cannot safely return to their homeland due to extraordinary conditions, such as natural disasters or conflict. This is unquestionably the case with Haiti. Please contact President Obama today and urge him to take this important humanitarian step.Sincerely,Joan TimoneyDirector of Advocacy and External RelationsSend this e-mail to friends.
