OH HELLLLLLL NAWWW – Implanted Microchip Will Monitor Your Health, Deliver Drugs From Under Your Skin
By POD313
One of the most frustrating aspects of dealing with a chronic illness, such as diabetes or lupus, is the need to test your body constantly to make sure you’re healthy. MicroCHIPS is looking to alleviate that with a new device that’s implanted under the skin of a patient. The “chip,” about the size of a dime, senses changes in body chemistry and releases medicine when needed. It can also be remotely activated to drop medication as well.
The chip is much more precise than the finger pricking method for monitoring blood, and in diabetes sufferers, can minimize the risk of complications like blindness and kidney failure. The first glucose-monitoring and osteoporosis drug-releasing chips will begin human clinical trials next year. MicroCHIPS is looking into developing more advanced versions that can predict heart or kidney failure, biodegrade in the body, and release multiple vaccine or drug doses over time.

Verizon Staff Accessed Obama Cellphone Data, Became Ex-Verizon Staff [Ways To Get Fired]
Several Verizon Wireless employees stumbled upon the Pandora’s Box of personal cellphone accounts, that of President-Elect Barack Obama, and couldn’t help sneaking a peek. Luckily, the account was old and out-of-use, there’s no indication that email records, voicemails or call contents were monitored, and at the very most the employees only got to see billing records, according to Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam. Oh yeah, and the employees are now fired.
PERSONAL CELL PHONE ACCOUNT OF PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA ACCESSED BY UNAUTHORIZED EMPLOYEES
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Verizon Wireless President and CEO Lowell McAdam made the following statement today:
“This week we learned that a number of Verizon Wireless employees have, without authorization, accessed and viewed President-Elect Barack Obama’s personal cell phone account. The account has been inactive for several months. The device on the account was a simple voice flip-phone, not a BlackBerry or other smartphone designed for e-mail or other data services.
“All employees who have accessed the account – whether authorized or not – have been put on immediate leave, with pay. As the circumstances of each individual employee’s access to the account are determined, the company will take appropriate actions. Employees with legitimate business needs for access will be returned to their positions, while employees who have accessed the account improperly and without legitimate business justification will face appropriate disciplinary action.
We apologize to President-Elect Obama
10 Gadgets That Will Trip You Out Without Drugs [Thank Giz It's Friday]

Eye Candy USB Lollipop: According to the product page, this curious confectionery “uses cutting edge Sensory Substitution Technology to transmit vivid emotive images into your mind’s eye.” It’s based on “scientific” research conducted in the 1970s that the brain can accept certain forms of non-visual stimuli and transform it into a visual image. Using a charge via USB, Eye Candy lays down a matrix of small electrical pulses on your tongue in the shape of an object. Theoretically, you should be able to “see” the object it traces. Now here is where it really gets interesting…the pops come in six flavors designed to help you achieve the “right state of mind.” For example: the pop can trace the image of a spider on your tongue to help you overcome your fears. Although the product is not currently available, the goal is to have Eye Candy out sometime in the near future at a cost of around $90. [Eye Candy via Link]
Say “Merry Xmas KKK!” With a Nice Burning Cross Light [Xmas Cross]
As the season for joy nears, people are already getting ready for their Xmas lighting decoration. And if you are a store manager at the American Family Association, that means a burning cross in your doorstep. Because nothing says “Let’s celebrate Jesus’ birthday” better than the symbol of his death in glowing LED glory, 210 of them. Seriously, we are suckers for weird, tacky, and wonderful lighting fixtures and lamps, and that’s why we have featured hundreds of them, but somehow this seems like a no-no. No. [American Family Association via The Daily Dish]
Man Bra Keeps Your Moobs In Check [Man Bra]
I’ve been staring at this ad for hours and I still can’t really figure out who Japanese company Wish Room’s Man Bra (or, as Seinfeld fans would probably call it, The Bro) is for. Drag queens unsatisfied with the options at their local Victoria’s Secret? Dudes with a fear of nipple chaffing? Kevin James? Either way, this manssiere is promising to make you feel just as purdy as the vaguely Russian-looking man modeling for them. Considering he’s not even wearing one, I wonder if he has any idea what he’s posing for. [Wish Room via Gizmodo Japan]
Study Finds the Color of Dreams Dependent On the Color of Your Childhood TV [TV]
Further evidence that media’s placating massage fingers mine even the deepest jelly regions of our brains, a new study has claimed to prove the long-thought notion that the type of TV and film exposure during youth drastically affects the color of dreams, even much later into life. In the study, only 4.4 percent of those who grew up with color TV reported dreaming in B&W, but those who were raised on Howdy Doody and other monochrome entertainments had colorless dreams nearly 25 percent of the time.
Respondents to the survey kept a dream diary, which was found to match their general conception of the types of dreams had closely. And in an intersesting and somewhat depressing side note, most research shows that before the dawn of TV and films, most dreams were in color.
I distinctly remember asking my dad when I was young if the world was all in black and white when he was a kid—black and white and full of jerky sped-up motion and with everyone wearing suits and hats. The medium is the message, even in dreams. [Telegraph, image: Robert Frank, the Americans]
19-Year-Old Commits Suicide Live on Justin.tv While Commenters Egg Him On [Unfunny]
Here’s a story nobody likes to see. 19-year-old Abraham K. Biggs overdosed on pills on a live webcam stream before hundreds of people on Wednesday night, all while commenters on Justin.tv and bodybuilding.com encouraged him, apparently thinking it was some kind of joke. He lay passed out on his webcam for hours until he appeared to stop breathing, at which point the people watching realized it was no joke.
Sadly, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Followers of internet lore are surely familiar with Brandon “I told u I was hardcore” Vedas, who overdosed on drugs live on a webcam after having given his personal information out to the viewers in case something went wrong. All were too afraid to get in trouble to call the authorities.
There’s definitely something about being on the internet that makes you feel cut off from and not responsible for the people you’re dealing with (see: YouTube commenters), but when you’re watching a real, live human on video doing something obviously damaging to themselves, it’s completely inexcusable to do nothing.
