We Must Never Forget Trayvon -

We have not forgotten and we know you haven’t either.  The trial starts finally in June and we’re sure that the Stand Your Ground defense will present a whole new view of the murder; because of the misuse of so many Floridians.

The very next move in this case is in the hands of the prosecutor. We’re sure that the case is about as tight as it can get.  With all the witnesses and forensic evidence that has been amassed; within the past fifteen months.

We Are ALL Trayvon

Controversy is swirling around this case.  Thats’ why we know that there will be a sharp look at the crime; and then the law.  This case may very well be the deciding ruling which modifies the prevailing factors for it’s use.  For that we should all be pleased.

Murder is not something anyone should ignore – ever.

Early this week Charles Ramsey an ordinary African American man in Cleveland Ohio showed America how it stinks.

3 girls were missing for more than 10 years and this one man opened the door to all of the hatred that was locked away in one little house in Cleveland . When America realized that the man who freed the first girl Amanda Barry was a black man the story changed.

Instead of discussing his bravery, his arrest record for domestic assault was flashed onto the screen.  Many like myself saw it as a clear way to distract the hero worship back to the community which ignored this mans’ risk taking.

Thanks to his former wife, the woman he was accused of abusing; His name was given some praise after the media smear.  Her statements on facebook made everyone realize that Charles Ramsey made a choice to step up when he was needed.  He didn’t look the other way and ignore the womans’ screams. Charles Ramsey responded;  and for that he should be recognized

There were many discussions about the level of eloquence of Charles Ramsey statements made to the news media. But no one can deny his heart was in the right place when he freed Amanda berry and called the police on his neighbor Ariel Castro.

Mr Ramsey said that in the year he had lived next door to Mr Castro he had no idea that the women were being held captive in the Castro home.

When Mr Ramsey saw Amanda screaming for help inside the Castro home he immediately abandoned any thoughts other than helping the woman and her child to be freed.

This is the definition of a hero. America needs to look deeper into it’s past to understand why this one man took  his chances; and freed a woman who may have gotten him shot just because he and she were standing side by side.

Rodney Rose of 252 Tattoo was particularly impressed by Ramsey’s heroism and described him as “…that public figure in Cleveland right now, kind of the voice and face of it. He’s such an expressive guy, I figured it’d make a great tattoo.”

The tattoo pictured is on the leg of fellow tattoo artist Stephen Munhollon. Munhollon had this to say about his new tattoo, “You could ask the question, did I want to get Charles Ramsey tattooed on my leg, and the obvious answer is no. The real question is, was I willing to get Charles Ramsey tattooed on my leg, and the answer was yes.”

I myself thought this was an incredibly stupid idea at first. But I guess it’s appropriate given the fact they are tattoo artist and this is how they choose to express themselves. However I think I’ll just wait for the t-shirt to come out.

So as you can see Everyone has a viewpoint on this man.

Less than 10 years ago America watched as Cleveland and other Ohio cities were inundated with the new Nazi Party. Klansmen and skinheads from everywhere descended on Ohio as their new found land of freedom. How many people ignored all of this happening right in modern-day America? Too many for my comfort. If America is truly committed to freeing itself from its old pain, we need to step away from statements about the eloquence of the hero and focus on the dastardly deeds of the criminal.

These women were missing for 10 years minimum and still we cannot fathom how to stop these types of crimes.

From all that we’ve seen this week on the news in regards to the women in Cleveland and Charles Ramsey we need to understand that America is composed of pain in layers. Isn’t it time that some of these layers are stripped away and a miracle finally reveals Americas’ bloody underpinnings to healing introspection ?

Miracles will restore faith, if you believe in them. This has been a week of miracle women being freed. This young woman – Reshma Begum; was freed from a building in Dhaka after 17 days of being trapped in rubble. Yes 17 days. That is truly a miracle.

This is her story and what actually caused this disaster in Dhaka

Yes you heard correctly – The building was literally disintegrating before people’s eyes. the other building tenants had closed and told their workers not to come in. Yet the factory which produced clothes for euro brand H & M;  as well as Americas’ Wal-Mart and Gap, were told if they didn’t come in they’d be pay docked.

With this statement and knowledge of the condition of the building -The owners or the factory committed decided mass murder. We believe it is because Bangladesh is the worlds lowest paid country. women were working for the equivalent of $37.00 a month.

Most of those who died and worked there were the lowest paid workers on the planet

Clearly this is why they were treated as though they were disposable. Not only by the sweatshop owners, but by those who purchase their sub-priced goods; without ever associating the goods with the people.

Woman found alive in Bangladesh rubble recovering

in the midst of what had become a grim search for decaying bodies following the world’s worst garment industry disaster, rescuers found the seamstress, Reshma Begum, alive, providing a much-needed boost for the weary workers.

On Saturday, several photographers were allowed into the hospital to take pictures of Begum. Lying on her bed under a sheet, she looked tired but alert. She was hooked up to a monitor and an intravenous drip.

For 17 days, Begum lay trapped beneath thousands of tons of wreckage as temperatures outside climbed into the mid-30s Celsius (mid-90s Fahrenheit). She rationed food and water. She banged a pipe in a desperate attempt to attract attention and was fast losing hope of ever making it out alive.

In the ruins of the collapsed eight-story building above her, the frantic rescue operation had long ago ended.

“No one heard me. It was so bad for me. I never dreamed I’d see the daylight again,” the seamstress, Reshma Begum, told Somoy TV from her hospital bed after her rescue.

The miraculous moment came when salvage workers finally heard Begum’s banging. They pulled her to safety. She was in surprisingly good condition.

“I heard her say, ‘I am alive, please save me.’ I gave her water. She was OK,” said Miraj Hossain, a volunteer who crawled through the debris to help cut Begum free.

Her rescue was broadcast on television across Bangladesh. The prime minister rushed to the hospital, as did Begum’s family to embrace a loved one they thought they’d never again see alive.

Begum was working on the second floor of the Rana Plaza building on April 24 when the building began collapsing around her. She raced down a stairwell to the first floor, where she was trapped, Suhrawardy said.

Her long hair became stuck under the rubble, but she used sharp objects to cut her hair and release herself, rescue officials said.

“There was some dried food around me. I ate the dried food for 15 days. The last two days I had nothing but water,” Begum told the television station. “I had some bottles of water around me.”

After the building collapse, Begum’s mother, Zobeda Begum, spent sleepless nights rushing from one place to another looking for her daughter, with other family members joining the search. When they found out she had been rescued, they raised their hands in prayer.

“I just could not believe it when I saw her in the hospital,” the mother, a frail woman in her 60s, said tearfully.

Before Friday, the last survivor had been found April 28, and even her story ended tragically. As workers tried to free Shahina Akter, a fire broke out and she died of smoke inhalation.

Crews were instead engaged in the painstaking work of trying to remove bodies so the victims’ families could bury their loved ones. They eventually approached the section where Begum was trapped.

“I heard voices of the rescue workers for the past several days. I kept hitting the wreckage with sticks and rods just to attract their attention,” Begum said.

She finally got the crews’ attention when she took a steel pipe and began banging it, said Abdur Razzak, a warrant officer with the military’s engineering department who first spotted her in the wreckage.

The rescue crews ordered the cranes and bulldozers to stop immediately and used handsaws and welding and drilling equipment to cut through the iron rods and debris still trapping her. They gave her water, oxygen and saline as they worked.

After 40 minutes, she was free.

“She was fine, no injuries. She was just trapped. The space was wide,” said Lt. Col. Moyeen, an army official at the scene who uses only one name.

Begum told her rescuers there were no more survivors in her area. Workers began tearing through the nearby rubble anyway, hoping to find another person alive.

Begum’s sister Asma said she and her mother kept a vigil for the seamstress, who is from the rural Dinajpur district, 270 kilometers (170 miles) north of Dhaka. She said they had been losing hope amid the endless string of grim days, when scores of bodies and no survivors were removed from the rubble.

“We got her back just when we had lost all our hope to find her alive,” she told Somoy TV. “God is so merciful.”

Reshma’s older brother Zayed Islam said she had come to Dhaka two and a half years ago to find work.

“We are a poor family. She had to earn money herself. She got a job in the garment factory,” he said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whose government has come under criticism for its lax oversight over the powerful garment industry, raced to the hospital by helicopter to meet Begum and congratulated the rescuers, officials said.

“This is an unbelievable feat,” Hasina was quoted as saying by her assistant, Mahbubul Haque Shakil.

Begum lived in a rented house with her sister, who worked at a different garment factory.

Officials said Saturday that 1,090 bodies had been recovered so far from the ruins of the building, which housed five garment factories employing thousands of workers. They said 780 bodies had been handed over to families.

The disaster has raised alarm about working conditions in Bangladesh’s $20 billion garment industry, which provides clothing for major retailers around the globe.

Over the last week identification of the bodies being recovered from the debris has become harder because they are badly decomposed, officials said.

Officials say the owner of Rana Plaza illegally added three floors and allowed the garment factories to install heavy machines and generators, even though the structure was not designed to support such equipment.

The owner and eight other people, including the owners of the garment factories, have been detained.

There are a few things about this story that make us uncomfortable. These workers were literally in an eight story illegal deathtrap, Making clothes for the US and European markets; While the building was literally collapsing.

That means that the jeans or the dress you and your mom could have bought this week; could have been made in one of these deathtraps in Dhaka. Even possibly this one.

There is so much about this that really brings one to thought today

Her life is irreplaceable; yet we see these conditions all over Bangladesh. We believe it’s mainly because the multinationals who purchase these services don’t take the time to ensure that the international code of human rights and workers rights are followed; in the factories where their goods are produced.

The retailers surely charge the price for these mandates, even if they don’t follow up to ensure that the agreed safety regulations are in place.

These are not posts which fell on deaf ears. We know that many of you read the post on Prewashed Denim and decided to just say no more.

Thats’ why we take the time and put these thoughts out there into the media universe. To allow our viewpoint to be heard and acted upon. Sweatshops are not small time operations. Sweatshops are major manufacturing operations doing it for pennies on the dollar.

This is what makes it clearly a death trap

If you illegally add floors onto building which are not engineered to hold them, you are engineering death at the least; more alike planned murder.

This should be the viewpoint of the prosecutors who try those who committed to this criminal activity. The boards of stockholders should be served their notices to appear, and present evidence in this plot to kill poor people in modern mechanized plantations / sweatshops all around the globe.

Major retailers know that their part in this is clear in the minds of the consumer – should their brand be linked to this incident.  Remember that the next time you buy textile goods from Walmart, Gap and H & M. We can assure you we will.

Looking at the information that’s been revealed, we believe thats’ why these corporations do business through shadow networks. Bangladeshi networks that contract out their orders and pass on the goods, without their brand name being behind the deal.

That in itself is pure evil in action

This is why we again hope that the evidence of who did this comes to light soon. Let the world see the tags found in the rubble. Show us the brands who now have blood on their hands. Give the consumers the information that will allow them to make the most informed choice, when they spend their hard-earned Dollars, Francs, Euros and Deutschmarks. There has to be a line where this ends, and since this is mothers day – let this be that line.

Today Mothers, Wives, Sisters, and All Other Women who SHOP for Fashion and Household Items – Say No to those who dip your money into their plot of blood.  Just Say No To H & M, Walmart and Gap if made in Bangladesh.

Dear Friend,

Please take a moment to send a message to Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant requesting that he allow DNA testing for Willie Manning before his MAY 7th execution date!

Last week the Mississippi Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision issued a ruling denying Willie Manning the ability to do DNA testing that could prove his innocence.  Manning’s execution is scheduled for May 7th.  Given that he has few options left, his lawyers have asked the governor to issue a stay and order the testing.  Manning was convicted based on circumstantial evidence, and there is a rape kit, fingernail scraping and hair samples that could be tested that might prove innocence.

(NNPA) The fashion community is in an uproar over Vogue Netherlands’ attempt to pay homage to Black icons in a feature with a White model in Blackface in its May 2013 issue.

The editorial “Heritage Heroes” showcases white, blond model Querelle Jansen as American-born French singer and dancer Josephine Baker and electrifying Jamaican singer and model Grace Jones. Jansen is pictured in the spread with Blackface and a funky, black Afro wig and a cone-shaped high-top hair style in the other photo.

The feature was designed to underscore the contributions of Baker and Jones to the fashion world.

Fashionita.com, a leading fashion blog, said, “A couple of alternative ideas: use a model who already looks something like Grace Jones or Josephine Baker without face paint. Or just, you know, don’t paint a white person’s face Black ever? Why is this even something we have to keep pointing out? European editors and stylists especially, it seems, are really not getting it.”

Blackface has been a recurring issue in many of European fashion publications.

Numéro magazine was recently under fire for its March 2013 issue, placing model Ondria Hardin, 16, in an editorial “African Queen.” Her skin is painted black. The editorial was shot by photographer Sebastian Kim. In 2010, Numéro magazine published a similar editorial with model Constance Jablonski in black and blond Afro wigs alongside a Black toddler.

In 2009, Vogue Paris published an editorial with model Lara Stone dressed in black paint from head to toe. The 14-page spread was styled by then-editor Carine Roitfeld, who left Conde Nast to launch her own publication CR Fashion Book, now in its second year.

Lots of the Lies that were told when the Gulf of Mexico was the scene of this century’s worst oil spill are coming to the light. Did you realize that the seafood from the Gulf of Mexico is mostly effected by the dispersents used to help dissipate the spill. It’s giving us Black Lung Lobsters and Eyeless Shrimp. Ahhhhh yes, Cajun delicacies. No Such Thing, but those species are now common in the gulf. check this out and see what’s on your seafood buffet – fresh from the Gulf of Mexico.

We must confess that this bothers us in ways that it didn’t when it first happened.  Our family had grown to include some folks who are directly impacted by the BP activity in the gulf. Because of this we have decided to post this piece without our opinion added to enable you to get the full grasp sans salt.

How bad is it?

The effect that the oil spill and its reckless cleanup has on sea life is frightening, damning and sad. Here’s a list of deformities that Al Jazeera found in its report:

• Shrimp with tumors on their heads
• Shrimp with defects on their gills and “shells missing around their gills and head”
• Shrimp without eyes
• Shrimp with babies still attached to them
• Eyeless fish
• Fish without eye-sockets
• Fish without covers on their gills
• Fish with large pink masses hanging off their eyes and gills
• Crates of blue crabs, all of which were lacking at least one claw
• Crabs with holes in their shells
• Crabs with shells that have no spikes or claws or misshapen claws
• Crabs that are dying from within

• The fishermen, scientists, and seafood processors who talked to Al Jazeera are all in unison: They’ve never seen this before. Some have worked in and around the Gulf for over 20 years, and most have seen thousands and thousands of fish. This is the first time they’re seeing the mass mutation and destruction of seafood.

  And it’s not just the obvious deformities. Tests of the oysters that wind up on our plates have shown elevated levels of nickel and vanadium according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. And the jury’s still out on arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury levels.

• The government has lost control

  The FDA, EPA and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) all refused to comment on the awfulness that’s happening in the Gulf. BP, the company who created this mess in the first place, refuse to take the blame, saying the seafood in the Gulf is “as safe now as it was before the accident.” The evidence, of course, indicates otherwise.

To us anytime you have a catastrophe the size of the gulf of mexico disaster of 2010; you cannot ignore the after effects.  So far they are unbelievable.  Crustaceans without Eyes and Limbs.  That in itself leads one to acknowledge that the effects on humans can’t be far behind.  Really scary stuff, to a gulf of mexico lover / family like mine.

A Deadly Paradox: Scientists Discover the Agent Used in Gulf Spill Cleanup Is Destroying Marine Life (This is vile)

After the spill, BP secured about a third of the world’s supply of dispersants, namely Corexit 9500 and 9527, according to The New York Times. Of the two, 9527 is more toxic. Corexit dispersants emulsify oil into tiny beads, causing them to sink toward the bottom. Wave action and wind turbulence degrade the oil further, and evaporation concentrates the toxins in the oil-Corexit mixture, including dangerous compounds called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), known to cause cancer and developmental disorders.

BP says that Corexit is harmless to marine life, while the Environmental Protection Agency has waffled, saying both that “long term effects [of dispersants] on aquatic life are unknown” and that data “do not indicate any significant effects on aquatic life. Moreover, decreased size of the oil droplets is a good indication that, so far, the dispersant is effective.”

But many scientists, such as Dr. William Sawyer, a Louisiana toxicologist, argue that Corexit can be deadly to people and sea creatures alike. “Corexit components are also known as deodorized kerosene,” Sawyer said in a written statement for the Gulf Oil Disaster Recovery Group, a legal consortium representing environmental groups and individuals affected by the Deepwater Horizon spill. “With respect to marine toxicity and potential human health risks,studies of kerosene exposures strongly indicate potential health risks to volunteers, workers, sea turtles, dolphins, breathing reptiles and all species which need to surface for air exchanges, as well as birds and all other mammals.” When Corexit mixes with and breaks down crude, it makes the oil far more “bioavailable” to plants and animals, critics allege, because it is more easily absorbed in its emulsified state.

Sawyer tested edible fish and shellfish from the Gulf for absorption of petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC), believed to have been facilitated by Corexit. Tissue samples taken prior to the accident had no measurable PHC. But after the oil spill, Sawyer found tissue concentrations up to 10,000 parts per million, or 1 percent of the total. The study, he said, “shows that the absorption [of the oil] was enhanced by the Corexit.”

In April 2012, Louisiana State University’s Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences was finding lesions and grotesque deformities in sea life—including millions of shrimp with no eyes and crabs without eyes or claws—possibly linked to oil and dispersants.

The shocking story was ignored by major U.S. media, but covered in depth by Al Jazeera. BP said such deformities were “common” in aquatic life in the Gulf and caused by bacteria or parasites.But further studies point back to the spill.

A just-released study from the University of South Florida found that underwater plumes of BP oil, dispersed by Corexit, had produced a “massive die-off” of foraminifera, microscopic organisms at the base of the food chain. Other studies show that, as a result of oil and dispersants, plankton have either been killed or have absorbed PAHs before being consumed by other sea creatures.

EcoRigs divers took water and marine life samples at several locations in the months following the blowout. Now, they and countless other Gulf residents are sick, with symptoms resembling something from a sci-fi horror film, including bleeding from the nose, ears, breasts, and even anus. Others complain of cognitive damage, including what one man calls getting “stuck stupid,” when he temporarily cannot move or speak, but can still hear.

“If we are getting sick, then you know the marine life out in the Gulf is too,”Kolian said. The diver and researcher completed an affidavit on human and marine health used in GAP’s report.

Kolian’s team has done studies of their own to alarming results. “We recently submitted a paper showing levels of hydrocarbons in seafood were up to 3,000 times higher than safety thresholds for human consumption,” he said. “Concentrations in biota [i.e. all marine life] samples were even greater.”

Recall the horrid symptoms other Gulf residents are experiencing and how BP has tried to downplay the toxicity of the dispersant used, Corexit, which is over 50 times more toxic than the oil itself when the two mix.

No Doubt you’ll start asking more about that Seafood you’re eating now. Our advice is to think long and hard because most of it is stewed slowly in a pot of poison. The oceans are filled with oil, chemicals, plastic, pcb’s, and all matter of toxic trash.

If you are a part of the food chain, then you are also a part of the poison chain. The time it takes to ask where your seafood comes from, could be all the time you need to know just how poorly managed seafood inspection is, in America.

Unfortunately even when you fish in the gulf, you are fishing out of the same poisonous water that this seafood comes from. We have more fish in our fridge than we can sometimes cook, when the season is good. lately it’s been mostly Grunts.

That’s because of the climate issues effecting the planets’ waters. We all need to think more about what we’re putting into our bodies. Knowing Where it comes from could make all the difference to your health. Remember That the next time you sit down to that Seafood feast.

The rest of the nation doesn’t matter as long as the congress gets where they want to go when they want to go there; as in home on Friday and back to DC on Sunday.  That’s just plain hypocritical.  How can you actually think about this and see any semblance of intelligence in this sequester ?

We think he has a point – when he says the republicans finally see how it impacts them too; which is why they put a temp fix in place to allow congress to Fly where they want to go. Screw America, as long as the legislature can get paid and fly when they want.

America it’s time you sent Congress Back to Head Start because they are the Weakest Link in America’s Plan

• There has to be a way to stop this type of undermining by legislators ? – Don’t elect/re-elect them when they behave this way and vote contrary to the direction of their constituenty.
• There has to be a way to stop these types of cuts which affect the general well-being of the country’s’ citizens ? – Stand UP against these types of legislators and remove them from office for Treason
•  There has to be a way to sort out these financial issues without allowing the richest one percent to make the choices for those who fund these types of mistakes ? Stop allowing the Banksters to set the conditions under which the 99% exist.  Stop patronizing those who prey on the 99% because they are the problem – not the 99%;  We Are The Majority of American Taxpayers and Voters Therefore We Make The Rules.

The Boston bombers were Caucasians – Literally

They were from the Caucasus Mountain regions of Chechnya.  The ravings about them being Islāmic Jihadists were primary to every other blaming game that emerged on the sunday spin circuit. Still none of these starched spin doctors wanted to acknowledge the code word deciphering done by national media outlets fueled by their deviceivness  Illustrated by the reports by CNN that a Saudi National had been arrested as a part of the bombing plot in Boston. Yes the talk shows this morning were ripe with all the vitriol you could stomach in one sitting.  From Republicant’s blaming everyone for failing to pass the Gun Show Act; to the Immigration Blamers talking about their proverbial fence and defending the gall it takes to discuss Terrorism while defending their own racist blame game.

CNN had to step back and retract that mistake almost immediately.  it was comical to see some reporters come right out and admit that they had absolutely no idea what was happening.

America was lunched out on a week-long hatefest

Every single story about anything else was swept aside for the over play; and the underlay.  No one realized until all these talking heads emerged today on the sunday circuit what had actually happened.  No one even knew what fueled the hate except that jingoist undercurrent which continues to run newsrooms and media all over America.  Another Tumblr puts it like this :

Imagine if the Westboro Church wasn’t affiliated with Christianity… there is NO way they’d be able to constantly say “God hates America” and not be deported/ killed by the FBI/ shipped away to be tortured in Guantanamo Bay if they weren’t white Christians.

This is a look at the continuous war against People of Color within the United States. It greatly resembles the Cointelpro scenario of the 70′s. Take a Look for yourself at how more than 300 people of color are murdered by the police state mentality every year right here in America.  The resemblence to the code word Islamophobe and Black People is startling in it’s immediate recognition.  Today we saw it explained  as a part of the system of profiling employed in the militarized policed streets of America today. Profiling made CNN Say a “Saudi” had been arrested – when in actuality; no one was in custody or had been identified at that point.

We think that this is a clear picture and that no one misses the point. America is a nation of refugees from borders across the globe. So to us this zenophobic resurgence has twinklings of good ole’ amerikkah at her most rotten best.

No one misses this much vexation and response as evil; but to respond as though it should be assigned to a specific group is clearly an example of racist profiling. Deny as they may, it’s clear from the way the scenario played out – Americas’ got a case of Hatred. Hopefully some of these news media spin doctors and find a cure.

LOS ANGELES: The FBI and the US secret service are investigating after what appear to be Michelle Obama’s credit report,  including her social security number, phone numbers, bank, mortgage and credit card details, were posted on the internet along with those of celebrities and politicians.

Financial information purporting to relate to more than a dozen high-profile figures including the politicians Sarah Palin and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the singers Beyonce and Britney Spears, Mel Gibson, the actor, and Donald Trump, the property tycoon, was published by cyber criminals on a website believed to have originated in Russia.

FBI agents said they may have used information to obtain money from victims and warned those targeted to put fraud alerts on their bank accounts.

The details include the social security number, address and credit report of Robert Mueller, the FBI director, 30 pages relating to the Los Angeles police chief, Charlie Beck, and information on Joe Biden, the US vice-president, and Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state, although not their credit reports.

A message posted with Mrs Obama’s details said: “Blame your husband, we still love you, Michelle.”

The so-called “secret files” also purportedly disclosed details such as the actor Ashton Kutcher’s American Express bill, and how much Kim Kardashian, the reality television star, pays for her car lease.

There was doubt over the authenticity of some records. A phone number listed for Mr Biden was a business in Delaware.

The website, exposed.su, had an address originally assigned to the Soviet Union in 1990. It had been viewed by more than 200,000 people last night.

A Twitter account linked to it included a message in Russian which, loosely translated, said: “Hello world, we are exposed. Our goal is to show you all that this is only one of a few tricks up our sleeve.”

Police sources told the website TMZ that cyber criminals were “using” the credit information and that could involve withdrawal of money. They said the FBI had been aware of it for some time.

The Justice Department believes that Michelle Obama is the latest high profile person to have her credit report stolen and leaked online, according to the Justice Department.

A site published the credit report and Social Security numbers of Mrs. Obama and  Vice President Joe Biden, the Washington Post reports.

It is believed that someone illegally accessed these accounts and retrieved the personal financial data. The site owner claims to have stolen the financial records of Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton and FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III as well.

The FBI is trying to determine whether this is a case of hacking or identity theft.

This is not the first time in recent weeks that a prominent political figure has had their account hacked. A person calling themselves ”Guccifer” hacked into former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s Facebook account earlier this week.

“You will burn in h*ll, Bush!,” read one post, after that another referred to Powell as an “@ss hole” who would burn in h*ll for crimes presumably committed along with Bush and Rockefeller family members.

Guccifer previously hacked into George W. Bush’s email account and released images of portraits “Dubya” had painted as well as a photo of George H.W. Bush in the hospital.

Today we all learned that Beloved Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Passed Away.  He was a lion of a leader and a compassionate citizen always championing his love for Venezuela.

We of the ASID Hi Power Family offer our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.  Our hearts are filled with memories of what we know he tried to do to help those in and outside of Venezuela.

We remember when Venezuela helped to warm the homes of many right here in the US, during a few winters of extreme cold.  The same politicians who called him a dictator had to stand mute as his oil helped to warm the homes of those who saw otherwise.

For BBC Television, Palast met several times with Hugo Chàvez, who passed away today.

   As a purgative for the crappola fed to Americans about Chavez, my foundation, The Palast Investigative Fund, is offering the film, The Assassination of Hugo Chavez, as a FREE download.

Based on my several meetings with Chavez, his kidnappers and his would-be assassins, filmed for BBC Television.  DVDs also available.

Venezuelan President Chavez once asked me why the US elite wanted to kill him.  My dear Hugo:  It’s the oil. And it’s the Koch Brothers – and it’s the ketchup.

Reverend Pat Robertson said,

“Hugo Chavez thinks we’re trying to assassinate him.  I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.”

It was 2005 and Robertson was channeling the frustration of George Bush’s State Department. Despite Bush’s providing intelligence, funds and even a note of congratulations to the crew who kidnapped Chavez (we’ll get there), Hugo remained in office, reelected and wildly popular.

But why the Bush regime’s hate, hate, HATE of the President of Venezuela?

Reverend Pat wasn’t coy about the answer:  It’s the oil.

“This is a dangerous enemy to our South controlling a huge pool of oil.”

A really BIG pool of oil.  Indeed, according to Guy Caruso, former chief of oil intelligence for the CIA, Venezuela hold a recoverable reserve of 1.36 trillion barrels, that is, a whole lot more than Saudi Arabia.

If we didn’t kill Chavez, we’d have to do an “Iraq” on his nation. So the Reverend suggests,

“We don’t need another $200 billion war….It’s a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.”

Chavez himself told me he was stunned by Bush’s attacks:  Chavez had been quite chummy with Bush Senior and with Bill Clinton.

So what made Chavez suddenly “a dangerous enemy”? Here’s the answer you won’t find in The New York Times:

Just after Bush’s inauguration in 2001, Chavez’ congress voted in a new “Law of Hydrocarbons.”  Henceforth, Exxon, British Petroleum, Shell Oil and Chevron would get to keep 70% of the sales revenues from the crude they sucked out of Venezuela.  Not bad, considering the price of oil was rising toward $100 a barrel.

But to the oil companies, which had bitch-slapped Venezeula’s prior government into giving them 84% of the sales price, a cut to 70% was “no bueno.”  Worse, Venezuela had been charging a joke of a royalty – just one percent – on “heavy” crude from the Orinoco Basin. Chavez told Exxon and friends they’d now have to pay 16.6%.

Clearly, Chavez had to be taught a lesson about the etiquette of dealings with Big Oil.

On April 11, 2002, President Chavez was kidnapped at gunpoint and flown to an island prison in the Caribbean Sea.  On April 12, Pedro Carmona, a business partner of the US oil companies and president of the nation’s Chamber of Commerce, declared himself President of Venezuela – giving a whole new meaning to the term, “corporate takeover.”

U.S. Ambassador Charles Shapiro immediately rushed down from his hilltop embassy to have his picture taken grinning with the self-proclaimed “President” and the leaders of the coup d’état.

Bush’s White House spokesman admitted that Chavez was, “democratically elected,” but, he added, “Legitimacy is something that is conferred not by just the majority of voters.”  I see.

With an armed and angry citizenry marching on the Presidential Palace in Caracas ready to string up the coup plotters, Carmona, the Pretend President from Exxon returned his captive Chavez back to his desk within 48 hours.  (How?  Get The Assassination of Hugo Chavez, the film, expanding on my reports for BBC Television.  You can download it for free for the next few days.)

Chavez had provoked the coup not just by clawing back some of the bloated royalties of the oil companies. It’s what he did with that oil money that drove Venezuela’s One Percent to violence.

In Caracas, I ran into the reporter for a TV station whose owner is generally credited with plotting the coup against the president.  While doing a publicity photo shoot, leaning back against a tree, showing her wide-open legs nearly up to where they met, the reporter pointed down the hill to the “ranchos,” the slums above Caracas, where shacks, once made of cardboard and tin, where quickly transforming into homes of cinder blocks and cement.

“He [Chavez] gives them bread and bricks, so they vote for him, of course.”  She was disgusted by “them,” the 80% of Venezuelans who are negro e indio (Black and Indian)—and poor.  Chavez, himself negro e indio, had, for the first time in Venezuela’s history, shifted the oil wealth from the privileged class that called themselves “Spanish,” to the dark-skinned masses.

While trolling around the poor housing blocks of Caracas, I ran into a local, Arturo Quiran, a merchant seaman and no big fan of Chavez.  But over a beer at his kitchen table, he told me,

“Fifteen years ago under [then-President] Carlos Andrés Pérez, there was a lot of oil money in Venezuela. The ‘oil boom’ we called it. Here in Venezuela there was a lot of money, but we didn’t see it.”

But then came Hugo Chavez, and now the poor in his neighborhood, he said, “get medical attention, free operations, x-rays, medicines; education also. People who never knew how to write now know how to sign their own papers.”

Chavez’ Robin Hood thing, shifting oil money from the rich to the poor, would have been grudgingly tolerated by the US.  But Chavez, who told me, “We are no longer an oil colony,” went further…too much further, in the eyes of the American corporate elite.

Venezuela had landless citizens by the millions – and unused land by the millions of acres tied up, untilled, on which a tiny elite of plantation owners squatted.  Chavez’ congress passed in a law in 2001 requiring untilled land to be sold to the landless.  It was a program long promised by Venezuela’s politicians at the urging of John F. Kennedy as part of his “Alliance for Progress.”

Plantation owner Heinz Corporation didn’t like that one bit.  In retaliation, Heinz closed its ketchup plant in the state of Maturin and fired all the workers.  Chavez seized Heinz’ plant and put the workers back on the job.  Chavez didn’t realize that he’d just squeezed the tomatoes of America’s powerful Heinz family and Mrs. Heinz’ husband, Senator John Kerry, now U.S. Secretary of State.

Or, knowing Chavez as I do, he didn’t give a damn.

Chavez could survive the ketchup coup, the Exxon “presidency,” even his taking back a piece of the windfall of oil company profits, but he dangerously tried the patience of America’s least forgiving billionaires:  The Koch Brothers.

Elected presidents who annoy Big Oil have ended up in exile—or coffins:  Mossadegh of Iran after he nationalized BP’s fields (1953), Elchibey, President of Azerbaijan, after he refused demands of BP for his Caspian fields (1993), President Alfredo Palacio of Ecuador after he terminated Occidental’s drilling concession (2005).

“It’s a chess game, Mr. Palast,” Chavez told me.  He was showing me a very long, and very sharp sword once owned by Simon Bolivar, the Great Liberator.  “And I am,” Chavez said, “a very good chess player.”

In the film The Seventh Seal, a medieval knight bets his life on a game of chess with the Grim Reaper.  Death cheats, of course, and takes the knight.  No mortal can indefinitely outplay Death who, this week, Chavez must know, will checkmate the new Bolivar of Venezuela.

But in one last move, the Bolivarian grandmaster played a brilliant endgame, naming Vice-President Nicolas Maduro, as good and decent a man as they come, as heir to the fight for those in the “ranchos.”  The One Percent of Venezuela, planning on Chavez’s death to return them the power and riches they couldn’t win in an election, are livid with the choice of Maduro.

Chavez sent Maduro to meet me in my downtown New York office back in 2004.  In our run-down detective digs on Second Avenue, Maduro and I traded information on assassination plots and oil policy.

Even then, Chavez was carefully preparing for the day when Venezuela’s negros e indios would lose their king—but still stay in the game.
Class war on a chessboard.  Even in death, I wouldn’t bet against Hugo Chavez.

 

Hasta La Vista Mr Chavez, You Done Good Brothaman-

Early this week the world remembered Trayvon Martin on the day of his murder.  We talked to the folks we were with the day it happened.  We all still feel such an uneasiness surrounding his case.

The Zimmerman defense team is busy spinning media pub as fast as their faux money can buy it.  While the millions of regular Americans who stand with the Family of Trayvon Martin still wait and wonder if justice will ever be served.

A Florida legislator proposed strengthening and broadening the Stand Your Ground Legislation, on the anniversary of the very day that Trayvon Martin was murdered.  The insensitivity of this was felt throughout the state of Florida.  Like Ourselves, Many Florida folks were discussing it while standing in check out lines in stores this week.

It still smacks of racial injustice to everyone we heard discussing it.  That’s why we know that this is now a cause that Florida is united in clarifying.  Floridians love their firearms, and they are big supporters of the NRA and other Gun lobby’s.

This is no surprise, when you look at the states abundant natural resources.  Many hunters from other states come to Florida, specifically so that they can shoot big guns.

FYI There are private ranges which allow you to purchase time on the line to fire every weapon known to mankind.  Even Tanks are available to rent and fire in Florida.  Yes Tanks, Rocket Launchers and Flame Throwers.  Florida is big on all types of excitement.

This is precisely why so many Floridians are tired of the label redneck.  Florida is not a Redneck state; but the attitudes of folks like George Zimmerman and the Legislators who proposed broadening the Stand Your Ground Legislation, are starting to make a lot of Floridians Red Under The Collar.

Just last week a man in a walmart parking lot pulled his gun and began shooting at a car which he believed had been involved in a shoplifting at the walmart store.  He was entirely wrong as the news reported; and as such he was arrested and is presently in jail for assault with the intent to commit murder.

This man did not work for Wal-Mart, and was in no way involved in the incident.  He just deputized himself and began the mechanization in his own mind that he could rightly Stand and Defend Wal-Mart.  Absolutely Wrong.

This is such a broad problem that we could spend all evening recounting incidents such as this, but we wont.  Instead we’ll show you a new low in legal rougishness.

Man Convicted in Noose Attack Sentenced to Write Black History Essay

BEVERLY — An Alsip man who pleaded guilty to putting a noose around a black teen’s neck was ordered by a judge to write an essay about the history of blacks being lynched in America.

Matthew Herrmann, 19, was originally charged with felonies — including hate crime — for the racially charged attack.

He and two other white teens were accused of luring the victim — a student at Brother Rice High School — to one of their Beverly homes in the 1600 block of West 100th Place on Dec. 23, 2011.

When the victim, 17-year-old Joshua Merritt, got there, he was restrained, called the N-word and threatened with death, authorities said.

The three teens also put a noose around his neck. The teens were angry about Merritt’s relationship with one of their female cousins, police said.

The two other teens were charged as juveniles.

Herrmann pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor — and was sentenced to two years probation.

But the judge didn’t leave it at that.

He also ordered the teen to pen an essay on “the history and practice of lynching African-Americans in this country,” according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Since the incident, Merritt’s father, William Merritt, said his son sees a professional therapist once a week due the trauma he experienced.

“This has changed his whole life,” he said. “The way he looks at people, the way he tries to make friends — that changes a teen.”

According to William Merritt, initial resistance from lower-level police officers to bring charges on the case hindered the its long-term integrity.

“If I want to file charges it shouldn’t take two to three weeks,” he said, noting that during the incident in which the younger Merritt was surrounded by Herrmann and others, a knife was put to his neck in addition to the noose.

“They should have filed it right away,” he said.

While William Merritt said the ruling was “the best outcome” for how the case was presented, he likened Herrmann’s sentence of writing an essay to a homework assignment.

“[Herrmann] is immature, even now,” he said, of his son’s friend.

The two teens had participated in an anime club together in school and had been friends for around three years, according to William Merritt.

The young men involved in the incident had also engaged in a program called a “peace circle” after the incident, according to William Merritt, during which Herrmann continued to display a lack of understanding regarding his actions.

“You have to look at it as them being teens and not understanding the history behind what they had done,” he said of the young men. “Maybe if they had learned more in school they would understand the level of their behavior.”

Outside court, Herrmann said that while he and the victim are no longer friends, the two were able to make amends through the peace circle commonly used in juvenile court to help settle disputes without jail time.

He left the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Wednesday with his mother, glad to leave an ugly chapter of his life behind him.

“I’ve learned the justice system is fair,” said Herrmann, who turns 20 on Thursday.

Herrmann was ecstatic to escape with just probation and no felony conviction.

“I have to write an essay, too,” said Herrmann, who has shaved his beard and trimmed his long hair since his arrest. “No jail.”

Yes that’s a Walmart Label – found in the burned debris of the deadly fire.

This is why we’re no longer trusting Walmart – because they’re killers, literally.

On the 24th November, at least 112 workers died in the fire at Tazreen Fashions, a garment factory near Dhaka, Bangladesh. Many of the workers jumped to their deaths trying to escape from the nine story building. Others, unable to escape the blaze, were burned alive. Tazreen produced for a host of well known brand names, including C&A, KIK, Walmart, Li & Fung, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Disney, Dickies, Sean Comb (ENYCE) and Kmart/Sears.

First reports suggest the fire was started by an electrical short circuit. The cause of over 80% of all factory fires in Bangladesh are due to faulty wiring. The fire in Tazreen Fashions brings the total of workers that have died in unsafe factories in Bangladesh since 2005 to around 700.

Accounts of the different fires clearly show that many of these tragic deaths could have been prevented  had the  factories met basic safety standards. The windows of the Tazreen factory were barred to prevent theft, and safe fire exits were mostly absent, making it impossible for the workers to escape the flames and smoke. At the time of the fires the managers initially stopped workers from leaving by dismissing a fire warning as a false alarm.

Call upon C&A, KIK, Walmart, Li & Fung, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Disney, Dickies, Sean Comb (ENYCE) and Kmart/Sears to take up responsibility!

The Clean Clothes Campaign along with trade unions and labour rights organisations in Bangladesh and around the world call upon the buyer companies to:

1. Ensure full compensation to the victims,
2. Support a full and transparent investigation into the fires,
3. Sign the Bangladesh Fire and Building Safety Agreement.

• COOPERATE directly with NGOs and trade unions in production countries in monitoring the sandblasting ban.
• ENSURE good internal communication about the risks of sandblasting and other alternative methods between the CSR, design and purchasing departments as well as suppliers.
• CONTINUE to support a ban on sandblasting in supply chains, and support suppliers that wish to phase out their sandblasting.
• MONITOR new research on alternative methods and work to improve supplier trainings in health and safety issues.
• INVESTIGATE at which of the clothing company’s production sites workers may have contracted silicosis or may have been put at risk. If this is the case, the clothing company needs to make sure that adequate compensation is provided for the workers and their families, as well as the necessary financial support for medical treatments.
• PROMOTE a European Union import ban and national sandblasting bans in production countries.
• PUBLICIZE detailed information on your stance and work on banning sandblasting in your supply chain.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO  GOVERNMENTS IN DENIM PRODUCING COUNTRIES

• BAN the use of manual and mechanical sandblasting.
• ENFORCE rules on occupational health and safety.
• ENSURE that silicosis affected workers receive support e.g. social and medical assistance and disability pensions, regardless of whether they worked in the formal or informal sector.

RECOMMENDATIONS  TO CONSUMERS

• ASK the salesperson in your denim store how the denim has been produced.
• FIND out what the clothing companies to monitor their sandblasting bans.
• AVOID purchasing jeans that already have a “worn-out” look.
• USE your old jeans longer.

Jeans with a distressed, already-worn look have been popular since the 1990s, but one way the effect is achieved is by blasting them with sand – and this can give factory workers an incurable lung disease. So should we stop buying them?

“I have difficulty breathing… When I return from work I feel so tired. My eyes are in pain from all the dust,” says an 18-year-old worker at a garment factory in Bangladesh.

Sandblasted jeans: Should we give up distressed denim?

Bangladesh is home to more than 4,000 clothes-making factories and many of the world’s leading jeans companies use factories based there.

The worker, who agreed to speak anonymously to the BBC World Service, says he works 11 hours a day in the choking atmosphere, to earn a salary of $70 a month.

“I know the effects this is having on my health, but I continue to do it because I need to feed myself and my family,” he says.

Manual sandblasting of jeans requires just a hose, an air compressor and sand – workers literally blast the jeans with sand, to give them a worn look and to soften the denim.

Silicosis is caused when small particles of silica dust from the sand embed themselves within the lungs.

It causes shortness of breath, coughing, weakness and weight loss. It’s incurable – and in its acute form, fatal.

Scraping

Last year, Levi Strauss & Co and H&M publicly announced a ban on sandblasting of their denim.

After lobbying from campaign groups, many other companies have followed suit, saying they have either banned sandblasting from their supply chains, or are in the process of doing so.

But this is not always easily done.

Brands that have banned sand

• Armani, Benetton, Bestseller, Burberry, C&A, Carrera Jeans, Charles Voegele, Esprit, Gucci, H&M, Levi Strauss & Co, New Yorker, Mango, Metro, New Look, Pepe Jeans, Replay, The Just group, Versace
• Some companies say sandblasting does not occur in their supply chain, but have not publicly banned it
• Others say they will soon stop ordering sandblasted jeans

Companies in the garment industry tend not to own the factories that make their clothes, and work is often sub-contracted out from big factories to smaller, less well-regulated ones.

“We are still in the very early stages of the ban,” says Sam Maher, co-author of a report on sandblasting by the international pressure group, the Clean Clothes Campaign.

“There is still the worry that it is more of a paper commitment.”

“It’s such a poorly-controlled industry. Companies need to have a much stronger grip on their supply chain than we believe they do.”

There are other ways of producing distressed jeans – using lasers, or scraping by hand or machine, for example – which result in a similar effect. So consumers have no way of knowing whether they are buying jeans that have made a worker ill on the other side of the world.

Turkish ban

The sandblasting backlash began in Turkey, one of the world’s biggest exporters of jeans.

In 2004, a doctor in a village in the Bingol region in the east of the country became suspicious, after conducting medical tests on a group of young men about to start military service.

Dozens of them were suffering from silicosis and all had been working in denim sandblasting factories in Istanbul.

It was the first time that the illness – which has a long history among workers in construction and mining – had been found within the garment industry.

To date, 46 garment workers have died from silicosis in Turkey, and there are 1,200 registered cases – though doctors suspect the true number of people affected there is much higher.

Five years after the discoveries in Bingol, the Turkish government banned sandblasting. But in other countries the issue has received scant attention.

“It hasn’t become a big scandal in the way it should have done,” says Sam Maher.

The Clean Clothes Campaign believes that sandblasting just moved from Turkey to other countries – including Bangladesh, Pakistan, China, and Egypt.

Spot checks

It is hard for journalists to gain access to factories making jeans in Bangladesh, but one factory owner did agree to show the BBC around.

“One hundred per cent of our buyers are outside the country. We are dealing with world renowned buyers,” says Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Executive Director of Express Washing and Dyeing Limited, just outside the capital Dhaka.

Silicosis – the facts

• One of the most common occupational diseases, traditionally found in sandblasting workers in construction and mining
• There is no cure for silicosis. In less severe cases, treatment helps with associated symptoms
• Silicosis traditionally takes many years to develop, but some workers in Turkey contracted silicosis in months
• In 2009 the Turkish government banned sandblasting of jeans, and in 2011 it agreed to pay disability allowances to those unable to work as a result of silicosis
• Sandblasting is permitted within the EU and the US, but the amount of silica must be below 1% in the EU and below 0.5% in the US

His factory has some sandblasting machines which he is happy to show and demonstrate – but he insists they are no longer in use.

“We have stopped sandblasting totally… The sandblasting unit is absolutely closed, it is under lock and key – this section is not being used nowadays.”

“Everything is visible, nothing is secret,” he says.

“Buyers are employing a lot of manpower for auditing this sort of thing… there are evaluations without notice. Sometimes in the evenings, buyers suddenly come.”

The Clean Clothes Campaign wants the European Union to ban the import of any clothes produced using the sandblasting technique, and for the World Health Organization and the International Labour Organization to add sandblasting in the garment industry to their lists of hazardous occupations.

They also argue that companies should provide medical help for any workers who may have contracted silicosis.

“It is not really enough to say ‘From now on, we won’t do it,’” says Sam Maher. “They also need to take responsibility for those workers that have already been made ill… without treatment, they are going to suffer a fairly horrific death.”

No-one knows how many people around the world could have contracted silicosis as a result of making distressed jeans.

Because there is no history of it within the garment industry, doctors are unlikely to diagnose it among workers in that sector. Campaigners say many cases are likely to have been mistaken for tuberculosis. The symptoms are similar – indeed it is common for a person to suffer from both at the same time.

Levi Strauss & Co told the BBC it was not aware of a single case of silicosis among any worker within its supply chain, and said that before the ban come into place, work was done according to the strictest safety standards.

Distressing jeans by hand is a safer method than sandblasting

Orsola de Castro, Founder and Creative Director of the ethical fashion label From Somewhere, argues that consumers also have a role to play.

“Clothes don’t magically come from trees,” she says. “There is a supply chain behind it, and there are real human beings behind our jeans.”

One way of cracking down would be to introduce a labelling system to identify denim that has not been sandblasted – though this would take time to implement.

Much simpler would be for consumers to stop buying distressed jeans, says Orsola de Castro.

“I believe that distressed denim will be seen as one of the great madnesses of this generation… a sign of fast fashion at its most ridiculous.”

“I don’t think it can be a badge of pride, I think it needs to be a badge of shame.”

A collective of hackers known as Anonymous commandeered a Department of Justice website Saturday to protest what it called the harsh treatment by government prosecutors of Internet activist Aaron Swartz, who committed suicide this month.

The hackers replaced the site’s content with a video denouncing the government and praising the 26-year-old co-founder of Reddit, who hanged himself two weeks ago as his trial date for allegedly hacking into an MIT computer network neared. Swartz, who was accused of illegally downloading academic articles, faced up to 30 years in prison.

Swartz had long promoted open access of information on the Web.

Anonymous said it deliberately hacked the U.S. Sentencing Commission’s website to call attention to “the federal sentencing guidelines which enable prosecutors to cheat citizens of their constitutionally-guaranteed right to a fair trial.”

The FBI’s Criminal, Cyber, Response Services branch put out a statement Saturday: “We were aware as soon as it happened and are handling it as a criminal investigation. We are always concerned when someone illegally accesses another person’s or government agency’s network.”

The almost 10-minute video declared that “a line was crossed” when Swartz, facing what Anonymous called “a twisted and distorted perversion of justice,” decided to kill himself. The hackers decided they had to do something for Swartz, adding that “several more of our brethren now face similar disproportionate persecution.”

As word of the hacking jolted around the Web, some saw an opportunity for advocacy. A tweet attributed only to “Anonymous” linked to Congress’ website and encouraged people to contact their representatives and ask them to support an evolving piece of legislation already known as “Aaron’s law.”

Last week, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) put a draft of a bill that would limit the scope of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, a 1986 law that prosecutors used to help lodge their case against Swartz.

Activists and Swartz’s family have publicly blamed Swartz’s suicide on the government. Last week, Bob Swartz, Aaron’s father, said he thinks his son “was hounded to his death by a system and a set of attorneys that still don’t understand the nature of what they did.”

Apparently the President hasn’t seen his own community as being fit to receive some of his special brand of assistance.  We do believe that before it’s all over and he prepares to move back to his own home, he will be addressing this issue.  Hopefully everyone isn’t dead by then. Pffst.

If you saw our post from yesterday you saw that  Sunday Night Lupe Fiasco was removed from the stage at an inaugural event; for performing a song that is one of his best, and most requested. In this song he directly addresses his feelings about the Obama political platform.  We along with most folks who know how Lupe feels about President Obama are still wondering why he was booked to play at a pre inaugural event; when he is so obviously not an obama stan.

For those who don’t know – this song is more than two years old and most certainly President Obama has heard of it.  If not from the streets; then from the anti Obama media like Bill O’Reilly and Fox News.

There is no bread that is sliced thinner and Lupe even buttered it before serving, so you know it’s well appropriate. This is Lupe defending his point on the O’Reilly show a year ago. Lupe talks about Fighting Terrorism and it’s clear he’s right.  He has never varied from this exact stance.

President Obama has said over and over that he planned to have the most transparent presidency in history. We can all be totally clear on the fact that this isn’t so.  Most especially since he goes both ways on most things he says; just like a politician. He’s swung back and forth so much most of his supporters have begun to move out of the way of the movement; since they’re never quite sure which way he’s going to swing in any situation. We can give you this recent example which twisted our wires quite a bit – CISPA.

A Year After SOPA: These Are the Next Five Battles For Internet Freedom

One year ago today, Internet users of all ages, races, and political stripes participated in the largest protest in Internet history, flooding Congress with millions of emails and phone calls to demand they drop the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)-a dangerous bill that would have allowed corporations and the govenrment to censor larger parts of the Web.

But the price of freedom is eternal vigilance, and the fight for Internet freedom continues.  Here’s a look at the top five issues SOPA activists should focus on next:

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is the first line of defense against the numerous, persistent attacks on Internet freedom. We may have all teamed up to trounce SOPA a year ago, but the fight’s not over. And the EFF knows what’s coming over the horizon better than anyone else.

Stop the Trans Pacific Partnership

After the historic collapse of SOPA, the content industry has claimed it wants to shy away from anymore excessive legislation that could potentially censor the Internet. Instead, it has turned its attention to the international stage. The Trans-Pacific Partnership, better known as TPP, is the latest multilateral trade agreement carrying abusive copyright provisions that the United States, on behalf of Hollywood and major copyright-holding interests, is forcing onto citizens of other countries.

Unfortunately, the treaty is being negotiated in complete secrecy and with no democratic oversight, so we don’t even know exactly what these countries have been debating. Fortunately, drafts of the agreement have leaked, and it’s at least clear TPP would force countries to drastically lengthen their copyright terms, restrict fair use, institute digital locks to keep people from sharing information, and place greater burdens on websites hosting content. Demand Patent Reform

Recently, our broken patent system has proven to be one of the biggest threats to innovation online. Big tech companies have been locked in billion dollar legal patent wars that do nothing for the consumer. Last year, Google and Apple spent more on patent suits than they did research and development. Meanwhile, untold numbers of patent lawsuits (and even mere threats of suits) involve patent trolls, those who sue start-ups for vague patents that can destroy their business before it gets started.

Luckily, people are starting to notice. Noted Appeals Court Judge Richard Posner called the patent system “chaos” and said there are too many patents in America, as he dismissed a prominent case involving Apple and Motorola.  The SHIELD Act, written Rep. Peter DeFazio, along with co-sponsor Rep. Jason Chaffetz, would help put an end to a lot of the problems we’ve been noting for years now. Tell your congressional representative to support real patent reform so the tech industry can thrive.

EFF has set up a webpage called defendinnovation.org where we lay out possible reforms for the patent system. You can leave you own comment about how the patent system has affected you and sign our petition, which we plan on taking to Congress along with a list of reforms.

Reforming Draconian Computer Crime Law

The Internet has been in mourning this week as one of its true innovators and pioneers, Aaron Swartz, took his own life at the age 26. He was, of course, an early developer of the RSS specification, Creative Commons, Reddit, and a multitude of other projects. Notably, the SOPA protests likely would not have happened without him. He founded Demand Progress, one of the groups which organized the blackout.

At the time of his death, Aaron was facing a relentless and unjust prosecution under the outdated and draconian Computer Fraud and Abuse Act for the supposed “crime” using MIT’s computer network to download millions of academic articles from the online archive JSTOR, allegedly without “authorization.” For that, he faced 13 felony counts (pdf), which carried the possibility of decades in prison and crippling fines. His case would have gone to trial in April.

EFF, along with a multitude of other groups, have taken a bill written by Rep. Zoe Lofgren and written the first draft of what we hope will become known as “Aaron’s Law” - which will go a long ways in preventing a similar situation from happening to a freedom fighter like Aaron again. You can take action and email your members of Congress to tell them to support reform of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act here.

Stop the new Internet Surveillance Law

There are rumors that the Obama Administration will propose a far-reaching new Internet surveillance law, dramatically expanding the the Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), which forces forcing telephone companies to build a wiretap-friendly backdoors into all their technology-but not social networks and other web-based communications services.

The White House and the FBI have not released what is in the proposed legislation, but one report states the FBI wants to require Internet companies, like Google, Facebook, and Twitter to build the same type of backdoors for real-time government surveillance. This not only poses a threat to privacy, but Internet security and innovation as well. We need to tell Congress this is unacceptable before it’s too late.

Protect Cell Phone Location Data

Cell phone location data is some of the most sensitive data one can possibly send out. Your cell phone sends a signal back to cell phone towers every seven seconds; that data, mapped out over days or weeks, can show “an intimate portrait of a person’s familial and professional associations, political and religious beliefs, even health status,” as the New York Times put it.

The government made a staggering 1.3 million requests for that sort of data last year - and the government believes they can get it without a warrant. The GPS Act, a bill introduced by Sen. Ron Wyden would force law enforcement to get a warrant for this data, just like the Fourth Amendment should require.

Meanwhile, app developers have also been sucking up users’ location information, many times without the user being aware of that collection. It paints just as intimate a picture of people’s lives as government tracking does. To that end, Sen. Al Franken has introduced a bill to restrict and regulate the practice so users are better informed and protected when giving this type of information to private companies. In addition, EFF has also written a Mobile Privacy Bill of Rights, serving as a best practices guide that developers should follow when writing applications for cell phones.

It doesn’t take balls or ovaries but sheer iron guts to call out an imperialist warmonger like Obama with a 30-minute anti-war song on stage on the President’s inauguration.

I was in the audience for this. Was some crazy stuff, and it was very disappointing to see him removed from the stage. (To be clear, it wasn’t at Obama’s inauguration, but at a party related to the inauguration.) — Ernie @ SFB

 

Lupe Fiasco Reportedly Kicked Off Stage at Inauguration Party

Pretty much everybody who pays attention to Lupe Fiasco knows he’s not exactly a fan of President Barack Obama, but for some reason the group Start Up Rock On booked him to headline their inauguration party Sunday night. It didn’t go well. According to tweets from people who were there, Fiasco got pulled off the stage after he played an anti-Obama song for half an hour or so, and refused to move on to the next track.  Foreign Policy’s Josh Rogin, CNN’s Matt Dornic, and others, tweeted from the event.

So Lupe played one anti-war song for 30 min and said he didn’t vote for Obama and eventually was told to move on to the next song.

As Well Dr Cornell West is not pleased that the president plans to use the bible of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as one of three that will be used in his swearing in. Dr. West is speaking on grounds of moral indignation which we understand. But the bible is just a book and it does not hold the true spirit of Dr. King. It’s only a document that was once owned by a Great Man who is known as the great peacemaker; even though he brought more police to anger than any other so called peace activist.

So as you can see not everybody is in a party mood up in DC.  This is probably due to knowing just how the political run of President Obama has effected so many in so many places globally.  We think Lupe Fiasco hit something dead square in the forehead, which is why they removed him.  It seems no-one wants to hear anything bad about the Obama camp today.  With that said we thought of everything.  we even planned alternate programming for you to watch, On President Obama and His Politics.  Yes, Exactly – a counter move to the hypesquad.

From the beginning of this year when the USDOJ Hounded and Harrassed Aaron Schwartz until he took his own life; There has been something negative in the air. The year is just beginning and it’s already obvious that more plans are underway to take total control of the planetery population. This isn’t a joke and everyone should be grateful for a heads up. You can’t go to any major media service and find out this type of information.

This is what they want us to understand and to pay attention to, as it’s happening right in front of us on a daily basis

There’s certainly no time to waste when you look at the most recent developments in the privacy and intelligence legislation areas. The NDAA itself is so secret that no one really knows what areas it covers; sort of like the patriot act. A legal monkey wrench of sorts for the DOJ to use as it has against countless citizens; who disagreed with the US Government on some crucial point. This is why it’s so important that you pay attention to these warnings, because if you don’t you might not be able to tomorrow.
