Oaktown Says HELL-NO to hbo American Pimpin

Hey Black Lenin twins – this time somebody don’t like y’all playin crazy games with their rep. finally someone stood up to these lil celluloid defamers and gave them the Firm Pimp Hand of Justice – -Hell No Hughes’…You Go Oaktown -

Oakland Ca. totally disagrees with the plan that the Hughes Bros had to put their city in the middle of their latest Pimp Swirl -“Gentlemen of Leisure“.

You can read the whole piece for yourself and decide if Oakland is right for slappin this pimpin and ho’in off their streets. they’ve already got enough to deal with; without the Black Lenin’s Circus comin in with their three rings.

no doubt they would use the real pimps and ho’s as coaches for their actor wanna be pimps and probably already ho’s..

it’s a damn shame that these two don’t have enough to do, with the inauguration coming up and all kinds of history being made presently. ahhhh yeahhhh that’s right, that would require a connection to the community and a non pimp mentality. sorry black lenins that’s not you.

these are two sad jelly beans, fo-sho !

Meet Rosebudd - “He’s a Muthafuckin Pimp, two dd’s for a double dose of this pimpin” – and this ain’t no documentary

This is a business – this is not a game

these are two segments from the first American Pimp – done by the Black Lenin Twins back in the late 90′s. it’s a cult classic. this is parts one (1) thru (4) of nine (9). see all of it on YouTube

People loose their lives in this game. there was never a time to glorify such a sad existence, so why are the Black Lenin Twins postin up like they’re on the stroll ? they ain’t no money getters. it’s pure fact that if you hang on the hoe stroll for long enough you will either be pimped, or pimp. Fact Baby.

Many people have lost their lives in the Pimp and Hoe Game.

“From Frisco to Maine, all the way down to Spain; you gotta know how to work each track..”

Sweet Minty Jesus – this is not for amateurs.

this segment features some of the heavyweights of the Pimpin Game from the 80′s and 90′s; Bishop Don Magic Juan; Paycheck; Dre; and a host of others all piping pimpalicious.. SMH. this segment is quite important because it clarify’s who fuels the Track and why the Hoe Stroll Moves Around “the bubble”.

We are sad when we see anybody promote this lifestyle. it’s not positive. nothing good ever comes from it. A recent study released by Amnesty International points out that Sex Slavery has more than Eighty 80 Million Victims Globally – male and female. no one is safe.

Oakland officials don’t like planned HBO show

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Art really does imitate life.

A few well-meaning Oakland city officials reacted rather badly to news that HBO will soon begin production of its latest edgy urban drama, the story of a middle-aged pimp struggling to leave street life behind.

The series, “Gentlemen of Leisure,” will be based – and filmed in Oakland – so long as city officials approve a film permit required for the project. But given the initial conniptions of a few elected officials, a smooth application process seems unlikely.

Chief among the naysayers is Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums, who actually complained that the project doesn’t fit his vision to create a model city. Oakland City Council members Ignacio De La Fuente and Pat Kernighan decried the project as well.

Kernighan said a poorly crafted show could further damage the city’s reputation and exploit women already being exploited in the worst way. “We need to know more about this project before we say yes,” said Kernighan in a written statement.

The political reaction was emotional, protective – and should have been expected. It should be reconsidered from a business standpoint because the city’s permission and participation are neither required nor essential. If Oakland refuses to issue a film permit, another city will suffice and the show will still be set in Oakland.

Just because the mayor insists he is moving toward his mind’s eye vision for a model city, it doesn’t mean the rest of the city has to take that imaginary journey with him.

Reality is a far different place: In contemporary urban street culture, Oakland’s true claim to fame is that of a leading innovator in the lexicon of street slang and braggadocio, fashion, culture and style around the nation. From the hyphy lifestyle that started on the streets of East Oakland to hometown rap artist Too Short’s pimpin’ ballads to a one-man stage performance about growing up the son of an Oakland pimp, the outside world’s perception is Oakland’s reality.

The Hughes brothers are the show’s producers. Allen and Albert Hughes, born and bred in Detroit, are the products of black urban life and while they are not looking to exploit Oakland’s good name, they will not shy away from exposing its criminal proclivities – nor should they.

“I heard about some of the (city) officials’ reactions and it put me off a bit because the mayor and the council members don’t even know what the show is about,” said Allen Hughes.

“It’s ‘The Wire’ meets the ‘Sopranos’ set in Oakland in a crime element never used before,” he said. “It’s not just about pimps and prostitutes, but also about the history of a city that never got its due. Much in the same way the producers of ‘The Wire’ dealt with Baltimore or (New) Jersey with the ‘Sopranos.’ Like Oakland, they are both little cities in the shadow of a big city.”

Hughes said he’s wanted to create an urban crime drama set in Oakland for more than five years and that the city’s struggles remind him of his hometown.

“Like Detroit and Miami and a lot other cities, Oakland is steeped in heavy street industry, in the rackets,” he said. “I’m just going to say it, Oakland is a pimpin’ town, it’s flourished there and whenever and wherever street life is celebrated, the city gets a shout out. It’s a natural fit.

“This isn’t something we take lightly and we’re not doing a show about a tawdry pimp. The city is the star of the show, and characters spring forth from that.”

Oddly enough, at the same time Oakland city officials are expressing their displeasure, Oakland native Don Reed is scheduled to open his one-man show “E. 14th Street” at the Marsh in San Francisco tonight. His performance, which has received complimentary reviews in New York, is based on his life and moving in with his father, a real-life pimp, at age 15.

“People expect to hear jokes about pimps and hos but they’re also hearing how my father navigated between two extreme worlds,” Reed said.

When Don Reed Sr. saw a friend trying to school his son in the ways of the pimping game, he acted like a father, not a player.

“He sawed him in half verbally and told him ‘My son is going somewhere. He’s going to be somebody.’ ”

As it turned out, Dad was right. Reed, 45, was a national debate champion as a student at UCLA and became a network advertising executive at NBC. He left the network to develop his stage performance in 2003.

If “Gentlemen of Leisure,” set for production in the fall, follows suit to “The Wire,” which followed crime, corruption and the melding of the two in Baltimore, it would touch on the graft, corruption and absurdity of local government – and in Oakland, producers will have a mountain of material to draw from.

In “The Wire,” politicians were narcissistic, self-absorbed and placed personal profit and political gain ahead of public policy matters – and there were no other kind. It revealed a Police Department whose top brass deployment strategies and investigative focus shifted according to the hot air rising out of City Hall.

Does that sound like a familiar scenario to you? Hit a little too close to home? Make you a bit uncomfortable, ill at ease? The cable series – written by a former crime reporter for the Baltimore Sun – was also hailed by critics far and wide as the most real-life TV drama ever made.

“We’re looking at starting next fall, if the stars align, and if Oakland doesn’t issue a permit, then we’ll have to shoot somewhere else – for Oakland,” Hughes said.
