ALL BLACK ‘VAGINA MONOLOGUES’ LAUNCHES TOUR: D.C.

performance to include new ‘Johnson Chronicles’ from penis perspective.

*An all African American celebrity cast will perform Eve Ensler’s Obie-award winning play The Vagina Monologues in several cities in an effort to combat violence against women and girls.

The special performances will take place in Washington, D.C. Feb. 6 and 7; Dallas, TX on March 7; Los Angeles, CA on March 21; Atlanta, GA TBA; and Houston, TX TBA.

Cast members include Wendy Raquel Robinson, Tamara “Taj” Johnson George, LisaRaye McCoy, Jill Marie Jones, Essence Atkins, Tocarra, Shar Jackson, Ella Joyce, Rolonda Watts, Yvette Wilson, Lisa Wu Hartwell, Tiffany Pollard (‘New York’), London Charles (‘Deelishis’) and Myra J.

“This performance will help empower women to say no to domestic violence, which is a condition plaguing women across the world,” said co-producer Rhonda B. Reece. “The African American community has always ignored this issue, but I am glad to bring this issue to the forefront. It is time to stop talking about domestic violence and ignite solutions. This is a gigantic step towards creating a solution and I am proud to be a part of the team.”

This year’s production adds a new element to the D.C. performance – “The Johnson Chronicles,” a complimentary piece to The Vagina Monologues from a male perspective.

The Johnson Chronicles is a “body memoir” of male perspectives on sex, relationships, and violence. It is the creation of Peter J. Harris, an award-winning writer, broadcaster, publisher, and artistic director who has gained national recognition for his works on the lives of black men.

The johnson (penis) speaks to men as the vagina speaks to women, helping them to understand the pain and deterioration that violence against women brings to individuals and communities. Audiences will be taken from boyhood to manhood with monologues on sex, fatherhood, and intimacy.

The Johnson Chronicles cast will include theater and television veteran, Dorien Wilson, Hidden Beach recording artist and saxophone player Mike Phillips and syndicated radio talk-show host Russ Parr.

SMITHSONIAN WANTS ARETHA’S HAT: Museum puts in a formal request for item to join special exhibit.

*Aretha Franklin’s Inaugural hat continues to make headlines in the wake of its worldwide debut on January 20.

Following reports of the bow-tied, Swarovski jeweled, heather grey wool hat being in high demand, the Smithsonian Institution has just asked Franklin if she will donate the item to its planned exhibit of President Obama’s Inauguration, joining other items such as First Lady Michelle Obama’s Inaugural night gown.

“I am considering it,” Franklin said of the Smithsonian’s request. ”It would be hard to part with my chapeau since it was such a crowning moment in history. I would like to smile every time I look back at it and remember what a great moment it was in American and African-American history. Ten cheers for President Obama.”

In the days following the Inauguration, the hat took on a life of its own, becoming the butt of jokes on late night talk shows and the subject of much discussion on such daytime staples as “The View” and “Ellen DeGeneres,” who wore an exaggerated version of it on her show.

Dozens of Internet sites have been devoted to the hat and, using software, it has been placed on mug shots of Dick Cheney, dogs, President George Washington and the heads of Mt. Rushmore, among many others. The hat even has its own Facebook page.

*It took nearly three years, but the divorce of Kimora Lee Simmons and Russell Simmons has at last been finalized, according to reports, with “dissolution” cited as the final judgment in their amicable split.

Kimora and Russell, who were married in 1998, first announced plans to divorce in 2006. In June of last year, Lee gained sole custody of their two daughters, 8-year-old Ming Lee and 6-year-old Aoki Lee, while Simmons was granted liberal visitation rights.

Last week, her reps confirmed that the 33-year-old former model and her current boyfriend, 44-year-old two-time Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou, are expecting their first child together.

Lil’ Wayne’s Manager Speaks On Rapper’s NYC Cancelations

Lil’ Wayne manager Cortez Bryant has come forward to speak on the rapper’s third New York show cancelation tonight.

News broke out yesterday (January 20) that Weezy canceled his performance in Rochester.

Rapper Lil’ Wayne has canceled a scheduled appearance at the Blue Cross Arena for the third time. Jeff Calkins, the arena’s general manager, said he had not yet heard a reason for canceling the concert, which was set for Wednesday. Refunds are available at the point of sale: Consumers may take tickets to the Blue Cross box office or contact Ticketmaster (585-232-1900) by Feb. 6. (Democrat & Chronicle)

Bryant has now confirmed the cancelation.

“Now that Wayne’s doing these bigger shows, he wants to make sure that all of his fans are getting the same experience,” he said. “It would have been too difficult to travel with the entire band, then turn around and head to Calgary the next day. We didn’t want the Rochester fans to get any less of a show because of logistics. We wanted to deliver the same caliber show we’ve delivered along the tour.” (All Hip Hop)

50 Cent Taunts Rick Ross: ‘You’re So Unimportant’

Following a dis track called ‘Officer Ricky,’ the G-Unit general even interviews Tia Kemp, one of Ross’ ex-girlfriends, in video.

Rick Ross told 50 Cent on Friday that he’d give him 48 hours to come up with a new response after the Miami lyricist shrugged off “Officer Ricky (Go ‘Head, Try Me),” the G-Unit rapper’s dis song following the first musical volley shot by Ross on “Mafia Music.”

Well, 50′s been pretty busy ever since.

Over the weekend, he launched a number of verbal attacks directed at Ross on his Web site, ThisIs50.com.

On Saturday, 50 started with a video blog where he denied Ross’ claim that he wilted at the sight of the Boss during last year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. “I don’t remember seeing him,” 50 said. “You’re so unimportant, I don’t even remember.”

In the clip, Fif also said he’ll relentlessly attack Ross, and like Ross, he won’t stop because of label pressure.

“I’m deciding to f— your life up,” 50 said into the camera. “Rick Ross, I’m gonna f— you life up … for fun. This is not new. I do this all the time.”

50 went on to explain that he purchased court transcripts from Ross’ family court case with the mother of one of his children (presumably in response to Ross’ jabs about last year’s “suspicious” fire at the home of one of 50′s ex-girlfriends). He then warned Ross, “I think it’s fair to say that I know you now and everyone else will know you.”

Later that day, an animated parody of Ross and 50 appeared on the site. In the video, 50 is shown locked up in jail with Ross serving as a correction officer. Throughout the clip, 50 taunts Ross: “Officer Ricky!”

On Monday (February 2), 50 showed just how familiar he is with Ross now. The rapper featured himself in a clip with the mother of Ross’ son, Tia Kemp.

During the eight-minute-long video, 50 interviews Kemp, who mocks Ross’ boasts on his records.

“It’ sort of embarrassing to me, because as you listen to his raps you would definitely believe him,” she said of Ross’ financial status. “It was surprising to see he spends $200 dollars a month on food, $300 dollars a month on clothes, his jewelry is rented [and] possibly not real, his cars are being leased, he doesn’t know where the money came from to put a down payment on a million-dollar home. I just want to prove the facts today. It’s all real, coming from Tia.”

Kemp told 50 that when she dated Ross she moved in with the rapper during her pregnancy. While she was cleaning the house she learned Ross had once been a correction officer, which she said he denied. According to Kemp, his sister confirmed the matter that later was referenced by TheSmokingGun.com.

Wyclef Jean Addresses Home Foreclosure, “Florida Was A Play House”

Wyclef Jean has addressed the reports about the foreclosure of his Florida home and says his main house is still in good standing.

News broke out late last year that claimed one of Wyclef’s homes was scheduled for auctioning.

The as-yet-unfinished manse is going to be sold off by Miami-Dade county Dec. 12 because Wy — through a company he set up with friends — has yet to pay back over $2 mil they owe on the mortgage. The house went into FC City in March. And it wasn’t just the mortgage that wasn’t paid — court docs show there were plenty of people working on the house that haven’t gotten paid either. Wyclef is now calling the foreclosure reports a misunderstanding.

“Dudes thought that I lost my mansion,” Wyclef said in a video. “No, my mansion is in New Jersey. Saddle River is where the mansion is at. Florida was a play house that I bought with some money, crashed it all down, I was about the rebuild it. That was going through a LSC company — that deal went bad because once the economy crashed, the bank was asking for a few milllions from me to give it back versus me giving that back, I’d rather let that deal crash and move on to the next house. So you don’t have to worry, the mansions are still there.” (Jordan Towers)

Aside from his home, Wyclef recently displayed his ability to generate funds with a performance at the Green Inaugural Ball in Washington, DC.
